UPCOMING EDUCATION SUMMIT:
CONNECTING EDUCATION TO WORKFORCE NEEDS
November 18, 8:30 – 4:00
Kilgore, TX (November 11, 2008) – The Workforce Solutions East Texas Board in conjunction with the
Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas Board will host a Bi-Regional Education Summit on Tuesday,
November 18, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Pinecrest Country Club located at 214 S. Club Road
in Longview.
The Summit is themed “Connecting Education to Workforce Needs” and will provide a venue for educators;
community, business, and government leaders; and economic and workforce professionals to address the
academic and workforce skills needed in our technologically based, globally driven society.
Keynote speakers include: Dr. Bill Daggett, President of the International Center for Leadership in
Education and sponsor of the annual Model Schools Conference; Dr. Ray Marshall, former Secretary of
Labor, Member of the New Commission on the Skills of the American Workforce which authored “Tough
Choices or Tough Times” and Professor Emeritus at the University of Texas’ LBJ School of Public Affairs;
and Bill Ratliff, former State Senator, Lieutenant Governor, and Chairman of Raise Your Hand Texas.
Panel discussions with regional community and workforce leaders will follow the keynote presentations.
The Workforce Solutions East Texas board will scholarship any East Texan who wishes to attend the
summit, but registration is required. All registrations must be received by Friday, November 14. For more

It is the mission of the Workforce Solutions East Texas Board to improve the quality of life in this area through
economic development by providing a first-class workforce for present and future businesses. The Board
works in partnership with chief elected officials of the region and is the primary source of local workforce
policy. The Workforce Solutions East Texas Board is one of 28 local Workforce Solutions Boards located
throughout the state. The board serves Henderson, Van Zandt, Rains, Wood, Upshur, Camp, Marion,
Harrison, Panola, Gregg, Rusk, Cherokee, Anderson and Smith counties. The East Texas Council of
Governments (ETCOG) serves as the administrating agency of the Workforce Solutions East Texas Board.
