Students will be given a checkbook for use in this class. Students will begin
earning $50.00 a day for each full day they spend in school and $25.00 for each
partial day. In order to hold onto their earnings they will be expected to follow
all class and school-wide three “B’s” rules. Even though the money is not real,
he/she will have an opportunity to purchase real items during class auctions held
at the end of each trimester.
Paydays are on the first school day of each month. There will also be many
opportunities for cash bonuses throughout the month. Students will have to pay
rent at the beginning of each month. They will also have to write checks for
various amounts and “pay the consequences” when they break rules. Students
are expected to keep their checkbooks balanced.
If a student loses his/her checkbook or shares money with another student, they
will not participate in the upcoming auction and they will lose any money that
was in their account. However, they will start over with a new checkbook for the
next trimester. If a checkbook should go through the washing machine, please
have your parents write a note or bring in the pieces for replacement materials.
Checkbooks should remain at school to avoid loss or damage. Students
should keep their checkbooks in a safe place. If you are called on for a
check and have left it at home or do not have your checkbook, you will
instead lose recess.
Auctions will be held at the end of each trimester. Donations are greatly
appreciated. Some auction item examples include posters, pens, pencils, toys,
games, doughnuts, candy, gift certificates, stuffed animals, puzzles, T-shirts,
stickers, books, cookies, homework passes, etc. Some items may be new, but all
will be in good condition. For every item a child donates, they will receive
$50.00 auction money.
