NJAEYC Board Member
Job Description
Responsibilities:
Approve the organization’s vision and mission and review performance in achieving it.
Annually assess the changing environment and approve the organization’s strategy to
be responsive to said changes.
Annually review and approve the organization’s financial plans.
Review and approve the annual financial goals.
Annually review and approve the Association’s annual budget.
Approve major policies and procedures.
Attend at least 75% of Board Meetings and 50% Membership Meetings/Functions.
Attend Board Orientation.
Demonstrate leadership ability.
Adhere to, follow, and support NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.
Avoid involvement in all political campaigns in the name of NJAEYC.
Avoid all conflicts of interest with NJAEYC.
Contribute to the financial well-being of NJAEYC and/or seek financial support from
others for NJAEYC.
Be loyal to NJAEYC, always exercising board powers in the interest of NJAEYC and
not for the interest of self or others.
Keep all NJAEYC matters confidential.
Qualifications:
A member of NJAEYC.
A commitment to NJAEYC and its values.
An understanding of NJAEYC’s vision, mission, goals and objectives, and services.
An understanding of the responsibilities and relationship of paid and volunteer staff.
Knowledge of and influence in the early childhood community.
Ability to understand concepts and articulate ideas.
Proven ability to lead the organization.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to objectively consider various perspectives
in guiding major policy decisions of the Association.

Job Description
Term of Office: 2 years
Purpose: To maintain the link between local, state, and national affiliates.
Responsibilities
Oversee Affiliate Council Representatives and appoint and oversee Members-At-
Large.
Serves on the Nominations committee every other year.
Provide technical assistance, support and resources to local affiliates.
Facilitate communication among and between committees and the Board
Nurture the development of potential leaders
Represent his/her committees at Executive Committee and Board meetings
Serves as ex officio as a member of committees and may attend their meetings.
Qualifications:
A member of NJAEYC and NAEYC
A commitment to NJAEYC and its values
An understanding of NJAEYC’s vision, mission, goals and objectives, and services
An understanding of the responsibilities and relationship of paid and volunteer staff
Knowledge of and influence in the early childhood community
Experience and/or interest in event planning, such as, but not limited to, board retreats

Job Description
Term of office: 2 years
Purpose: To promote the vision and mission of NJAEYC on the local, state and national
level.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the Public Policy, Media, Membership, and the Month of the Young Child
Committees.
Serves on the Nominations committee every other year.
Facilitate communication among and between committees and the Board.
Nurture the development of potential leaders
Represent his/her committees at Executive Committee and Board meetings.
Serves as ex officio member of committees and may attend their meetings.

Committees
Public Policy—Purpose: To keep abreast of all public policy impacting children and
families at the local, state and federal levels, in order to provide analysis and
recommendations to the Board,
Media—Purpose: To provide a variety of communication paths for the dissemination
and receipt of information.
Month of the Young Child—Purpose: To support, encourage and develop ways to
educate the community on the importance of early childhood education; to coordinate
a statewide event; and to assist local affiliates with regional events.
Treasurer
Job Description
Term of Office: 2 years, no term limit
Responsibilities:
Serve as financial officer of the Association and as a member of Finance Committee.
Manage, with the Finance Committee, the board’s review of and action related to the
board’s financial responsibilities.
Ensure that appropriate financial reports are made available to the board on a timely
basis.
Prepare the Annual Budget with the Finance Committee.
Present the Annual Budget to the Executive Committee for review and
recommendations to NJAEYC Board for approval.
Work with the Finance Committee to establish the annual review and ensure its
completion in a timely manner.
Review the annual audit and answers board members’ questions regarding the
review.
Ensure development and board review of financial policies and procedures.
Monitor the receipt of all money due to and held by the Association.
Ensure that all funds are properly deposited in Association’s designated bank account.
Ensure that the Association maintains tax-exempt status.
Sign financial forms and instruments as required.
Ensures the safety of principal, liquidity and a competitive rate of return on
investments.
Pay creditors according to the policy and procedures of the Association.
Provide reimbursements to board members in accordance with the policy and
procedures of the Association.
Oversee implementation of NJAEYC financial policies and guides the Board on
monetary matters.
Oversee the maintenance of monthly and annual financial records and reports
including report of income, expenses, investments, and balances.
Files any federal or state tax forms.
