                    RESPONSIBILITIES OF REGIONAL LIAISONS

Each of AIChE’s nine student regions has at least two Regional Liaisons. Regional Liaisons
directly contribute to the future direction and advancement of student members, Student
Chapters, and AIChE as an organization.

Participation commences with the Executive Student Committee (ESC) meeting at the Annual
Student Conference. Elections for position of Regional Liaison will take place prior to the
Conference, and will be concluded at least two weeks before the conference. Regional Liaisons
will serve for one year, with the term of office ending at the following Annual Student
Conference. Regional Liaison (RL) participation includes:

1)     Attendance at ESC phone conferences during the academic year. These conferences are
       held every 4-6 weeks.

2)     Attendance at the AIChE 2010 Annual Student Conference taking place in Salt Lake
       City, UT, including the ESC meeting to be held on Saturday Morning, November 6,
       2010.

3)     Attendance at the AIChE 2011 Regional Student Conference where the RL resides.

4)     Attendance at the AIChE 2011 Annual Student Conference in Minneapolis, MN.

5)     Active participation in the Student Chapter where the RL resides.

6)     Whenever possible, chapter visits to fellow student chapters in the region where the RL
       resides.

Regional Liaison Duties

        Communication with Student Chapter Leaders in region
        Compilation of successful programming from student chapters
        Programming/Problem Solving resource for Student Chapters
        Shaping the vision for the future undergraduate members of AIChE and the
        benefits they receive
        Serving as a liaison between the national office of AIChE and the regional
        chapters
        Serving as a liaison to other engineering and science student organizations in
        region
        Development of leadership skills which can then be shared with student chapter
        leaders
        Serve as an active voice of support for membership in and the benefits of
        AIChE

               RESPONSIBILITIES OF STUDENT CABINET MEMBERS
Student Cabinet Members are Regional Liaisons serving on AIChE’s Executive Student
Committee who, in addition to their responsibilities as RL are elected to serve as one of six
positions:

       1.   Chair
       2.   Vice-Chair
       3.   Divisions Chair
       4.   Local Sections Chair
       5.   Membership Chair
       6.   Young Professionals Chair

Participation commences with elections that take place at the ESC meeting at the Annual Student
Conference. Student Cabinet Members (CM) serve for one year, with the term of office ending
at the following Annual Student Conference. CM are expected to fulfill all responsibilities
outlined for a RL above, are expected to participate in monthly CM conference calls, as well as
the follow items as pertains to each position:

CHAIR

Call and conduct all meetings of the ESC
Call and conduct all meetings of the CM
Call and conduct election of new CM at Annual Student Conference
Set, execute and evaluate the goals of the ESC on an ongoing basis
Serve as liaison to the Student Chapter Committee (SCC)
Assist each CM with their responsibilities

VICE-CHAIR

Conduct all meetings when Chair is absent
As needed, serve as liaison to the SCC
Coordinate with all RL to ascertain the strengths and needs of the chapters within each region
Serve as main liaison for chapters in need – bring them to the attention of the ESC and following
through with whatever assistance can be offered
Organize successful student program collection and distribution to all Student Chapters
Design chapter calendar and program for following year with input and assistance from other
officers



DIVISIONS/FORUMS CHAIR

Promote awareness of Division/Forum benefits to student members
As needed, serve as liaison to any Divisions/Forum committee meeting
Regularly communicate with Division/Forum chairs to develop student involvement
Regularly communicate with Chair of MAC (Minority Affairs Committee) to develop student
involvement
Regularly communicate with Chair of WIC (Women’s Initiative Committee) to develop student
involvement

LOCAL SECTIONS CHAIR

Track the strength of relationships between each Local Section and the Student Chapter(s)
Compile and distribute successful programming between Local Sections and Student Chapters
As needed, serve as liaison to Local Section Committee
Track and promote the Ambassador Program

MEMBERSHIP CHAIR

Track membership increases/decreases for each chapter
Organize targeted national membership campaigns throughout the year
Serve as a resource of membership/recruitment ideas for Student Chapters
Assist RL with chapters who have large membership potential
Increase knowledge of membership benefits to student members

YOUNG PROFESSIONALS CHAIR

Coordinate with Chair of YPAB to connect Student Chapters with corresponding Young
Professional Groups
Develop programming to increase the interaction between young professionals and students
Assist in transition of graduating student members to young professional status
As needed, serve as liaison to YPAB
