                                      OXFAM IRELAND

Job title                   District Retail Manager                            Grade 9

Oxfam Purpose               To work with others to overcome poverty and suffering through
                            the most effective and appropriate means.

Retail Purpose              To raise funds for Oxfam’s work. Promote Oxfam’s values
                            through the shop network.

Job Purpose                 To manage and develop the district shop network, its staff and
                            volunteers, primarily to raise funds, secondarily to promote
                            Oxfam’s values.

Reporting Line              Report to the Director of Retail

Has reporting to            Shop Managers, drivers, various volunteers
                            and temporary staff

Key Activities

1. Provide leadership and decision making processes to maximise profitability and the
    income potential of the shop network from all retail activities.
2. Analyse, plan and manage income and expenditure to achieve agreed budgets.
    Monitor, evaluate and prepare reports on shops performance as required.
3. Plan and implement appropriate investment or disinvestment as agreed with the Head
    of Retail, to maximise profitability.
4. Assess potential by analysis and comparisons to achieve maximum return on retail
    space and product offer.
5. Ensure the effective use of resources is managed to maximise potential and achieve
    the retail strategic plan.
6. Provide leadership, training, assessment, and performance management for the
    development of a strong district team.
7. Recruit, support and empower high performing individuals and provide goals to
    maximise their potential and personal development. Delegate duties appropriately to
    make best use of the talents of the whole team.
8. Inspire, motivate and inform district staff and volunteers so they fully engage in all retail
    activities while complying with Retail, Financial and HR policies and procedures etc.
9. Have responsibility for health and safety matters within the district in conjunction with
    the Head of Retail and Shop Manager.
10. Ensure shop teams maximise appropriate local community networks understanding
    they represent Oxfam and their actions must reinforce Oxfam’s values and beliefs.
11. Ensure shop teams are utilising all appropriate technology.
12. Contribute to and plan wider Retail/organisational wide projects as agreed with the
    Head of Retail.
13. Represent Oxfam as appropriate on internal and external bodies, working groups and
    events as appropriate.
14. Carry out any other duties within the scope and purpose of the job as required.

Location        Travel throughout Republic of Ireland to various shop locations and time
                spent supporting staff and volunteers at their job locations and occasional
                travel to Northern Ireland is a requirement of the role.

Additional Information

This is a key management position, with a responsibility for a number of staff and
volunteers, geographically spread throughout Ireland. The role of District Retail Manager
(DRM) is wide ranging and demanding and requires considerable travel to ensure shop
teams are supported appropriately.

The DRM provides leadership and support to develop a strong team of managers with
clarity of purpose and a focus on planning and implementation of business activity with the
framework of the retail strategic plan. When necessary the post holder may have to
undertake additional hours, and have flexibility and ability to work evenings and weekends.
This is an extremely challenging position requiring a flexible, resilient inspirational manager
with a commitment to Oxfam’s values.

                                 TERMS AND CONDITIONS


District Retail Manager

   Permanent Contract

   36 hours per week

   Pay band: 9

   Salary: €47,180 per annum

   25 days annual leave plus10 days bank/public holidays per annum

   Contributory Pension Scheme – 9% contribution by Oxfam Ireland and 5% contribution
    by employee

   Life Assurance cover – 4 time death in service benefit
