HKUGA Annual Dinner 2003
On 13 September, 2003, over 300 members and their family celebrated HKUGA’s 26th Annual Dinner with Prof Lap-chee Tsui, Vice Chancellor
of The University of Hong Kong, our alma mater, as our Guest of Honour and Keynote speaker. The dinner opened with an exciting dragon
dance by the lion dance club of HKU followed by a lovely performance of HKUGA Primary School Choir.

 “香港大學的定位” 晚宴論壇 - 2003 年 11 月 26 日                             文灼非

同學會就港大的定位問題組織了一個論壇,邀請了港大的李焯芬教授和程介明教授、哈佛大學中國
文學教授李歐梵博士和時事評論員洪清田發言,由本會時事秘書、《信報月刊》總編輯文灼非和
2000-2002 年度港大同學會會長麥齊明主持。

李焯芬副校長提出港大要做中國大地上最有國際視野而較傑出的大學,港大國際網絡廣,應善用這
種環境。他指港大能出孫中山和饒宗頤便是最佳例子。

李歐梵認為一所大學要有遠景,洪清田則認為港大以至香港其他大學應發揮大學的社會功能——做
有秩序的知變應變機構,善用東西文化交流的機遇。

程介明教授認為香港的大學不可能只是一個城市的大學,應該多吸收外國的學生,否則眼界超不出
香港。他表示對港大的期望是不要局限在香港,要釋放學生的潛能,宿舍的作用尤其大。

港大同學會小學創校典禮 - 2003 年 11 月 8 日                 Mrs Margaret Mak, Supervisor, HKUGA Primary School


                                       「港大同學會小學」創校典禮暨特別室剪綵儀式於二零零三年十一月八日在港大同學會
                                       小學舉行。當天邀請了教育統籌局常務秘書長羅范椒芬太平紳士及香港大學校長徐立之
                                       教授為創校典禮的主禮嘉賓,並有四百多名大學教職員及校友、教育界同工、社會人士
                                       及家長蒞臨參加。嘉賓包括李焯芬教授,Professor Mark Bray,楊紫芝教授,李韶博士,
                                       黃乾亨太平紳士,戴希立太平紳士等等,濟濟一堂。

                    創校典禮於下午三時在禮堂舉行,由播放國歌及全體師生合唱校歌揭開了典禮的序幕。
                    教育統籌局常務秘書長羅太分享了她對中國航天事業發展對香港的啓示:教育工作與航
                    天工程同樣艱鉅,要多方面配合。教育改革在
                    學校層面推行時,需要有强大的專業領導,通
                    盤的考慮,清晰的優次及全校的參與和配合。
她並讚賞港大同學會小學為教育改革樹立好榜樣,勉勵校董、校長、老師、家長共同努力,
為香港培育更優秀的新一代作貢獻。港大校長徐教授亦強調家長對同學的培養的重要及學校
與社區的連繫,而他覺得港大同學會小學已向這兩方面邁進。

接着便進行一個既隆重又簡單的亮燈儀式,由校董會及嘉賓與全體同學配合「讓我閃耀」的
歌曲進行。跟着是同學們的表演:合唱團的甜美悅耳歌聲為嘉賓帶來:「秋天、Kookaburra 、
歌聲與微笑」;戲劇組及舞蹈組的綜合創作劇:「尋之旅」與我們分享他們的夢想和喜悅。同
學們的精采演出,獲得嘉賓的熱烈掌聲,而典禮在一片歡樂的氣氛中完成。

學校還安排了學科展覽,課室內設有主要學習科目介紹及學生作品展覽,包括中文科、英文科、數學科、常識科、綜合藝術科、單元
及課外活動等,並由各科老師作介紹。小提琴樂團及敲擊樂團同學亦分別於二樓及音樂室為參觀的嘉賓演奏。當日雖然天氣陰霾下着
雨,卻不減嘉賓的熱誠出席及家長的參與,令創校典禮加添了無限的温情。


創校典禮是學校的一個里程碑,學校繼續的發展還有賴校長、所有教職員、行政人員、同學及家長的合作和支持。


Good News of HKUGA Secondary School PS Yeung, Chairman, HKUGA Education Foundation

We are very pleased to announce that HKUGA Education Foundation has successfully applied for a HKUGA
Secondary School. The school site is at Nam Fung Road, Wong Chuk Hang, Hong Kong Island Southern District with
an area of 8,030 sq. meters. The HKUGA Secondary School is scheduled to be completed in 2005 and for operations in
2006 to link with the same mission and objective, curriculum, teaching methods of HKUGA Primary School as one
“Through-Train”. We hope the experiences of HKUGA Primary School and HKUGA Secondary School could contribute
to the development of quality education in Hong Kong and with a continuous education of thirteen years, we could
nurture our primary school students into young leaders of tomorrow.

再上炮台山–重拾三十年前的足跡 -2003 年 12 月 14 日 Reported by Chinnie Leung
                                    一九七三年一個秋夜,天氣初肅,明月在空,數十位風華正茂的港大畢業生登上炮台山頭,一同指點江
                                                                        。彈指一揮三十年,
                                    山,激揚文字,縱談天下事,抒發古今情。為延續這份豪情,他們成立了「同學會」
                                    當年的書生已卓然獨立,遍佈天涯,而同學會亦已茁壯成長,成為今天的「香港大學畢業同學會」。

                                    驀然回首,三十年看似平淡,其實不凡。同學會經歷了家國變化的滄海桑田,而幾度搬遷的會址亦見證
                                    了波瀾壯濶的歷史時刻。在漫長的人生旅途上,同學們亦靠著同學會維繫彼此的友誼。無論順境逆境,
                                    都互相支持鼓勵,這份愛與關懷確是彌足珍貴。

                                    三十年後的一個冬日,同學們再上炮台山,除了重拾當年的豪情,更為了展望將來,籌募同學會經費。
                                    再上炮台山,我們需要更多腳力、心力和財力。當日的活動,我們籌募了約 8 萬元,而且參與的朋友都
                                    觀賞了風景秀麗的炮台、 山徑、 古道,和參觀了大學堂宿舍。

                                                           Review of 2004 Digital 21 Strategy Dinner Forum

                                           To harness the benefits of IT for business, the community and Hong Kong's position in the world; the

參觀港島西廢物轉運站
- 2003 年 11 月 29 日 莫可南 環保及健康小組代表

                                           這是香港大學畢業同學會第一次非常成功的的「垃圾」活動。為什麼?
                                           其實這次活動是參觀環境保護署港島西廢物轉運站。

                                           港島西廢物轉運站在 1997 年 5 月投入服務,該站每天要處理超過 500
                                           噸來自香港仔、黃竹坑、中、上環的住宅和商用垃圾。雖然它每天需
                                                        ,
                                           要處理那麼多數量的垃圾 但站外的環境只是好像一個普通的停車場      。

                                           當我們進入轉運站的大樓,高級工程督察李立文先生便向我們逐一介紹站內的設施。原來站外的出入口處
                                           是一個量車器,這個儀器是用來量度往來垃圾車的重量,而每月給營運公司的費用便根據垃圾的重量來計
                                           算。

當垃圾車經過了轉運站的入口,便進入山洞的垃圾棄置糟區,所有的垃圾車便在那裏傾倒垃圾到棄置糟。糟內更安裝了一個機械推動器,將那裏的垃
圾推送到已在山洞下層安裝妥當的貨櫃。擁有特強碼力的壓縮機便將垃圾壓縮至原本體積的四倍的垃圾磚,而每個貨櫃可載運淨重 15 噸的廢物。當貨
櫃裝滿了垃圾後,工作人員便可以把貨櫃拉出至碼頭,由停泊在碼頭、可運送 95 個貨櫃的貨船 — 「沙洲」及「摩星嶺」號,運往至新界西堆填區棄
置。

有點異樣。當再深入處理室的時候,我們只可以用紙巾掩著那已經麻痺了的鼻子,不能說出話來。那裏實在太噁心了…

我們經歷了一次很特別的旅程,亦明白到為什麼要減少製造垃圾。原來,香港政府需要花上 750 元來處理一噸廢物,而每日接收垃圾的堆填區,亦將會
在未來的三十年內填滿。所以從今天起,我們應該減少製造垃圾,將適當的物件循環再用,我們的下一代才可繼續舒適地生活下去。


Hiking - Violet Hill to Repulse Bay walk - 30 Nov, 2003 Reported by Victor Ma
                                                   15 members and their family aged 3 to 60+ joined our hiking event on 30 Nov, 2003.
                                                   The weather was perfect for hiking, sunny and cool. We started at Wong Nai Chung
                                                   Reservoir at around 9:30am and walked along the Violet Hill path going towards Repulse
                                                   Bay and Stanley. Shortly after we started, two participants took the challenge to climb up
                                                   to the top of Violet Hill. We ended up meeting together near the exit to Repulse Bay one
                                                   and a half hours later. While we were saying the walk was too short, we missed the exit to
                                                   Repulse Bay. This gave us another hour of walk to enjoy the beautiful views of Repulse
                                                   Bay, Middle Bay and South Bay. At about 12pm, we took a short cut route down to
                                                   Repulse Bay Road near Chung Hom Kwok where we finished the walk




“Dream Interpretation Workshop” - 10 Jan, 2004 Reported by Henry Leung, Young Members Group
                Mr Steve Lam, a clinical psychologist spoke to our members on “Dream Interpretation” on 10 January, 2004. The seminar was
                designed to give our members some basic knowledge of the causes of dream and the skills of interpreting the underlying
                meanings of dreams, as well as the clinical theory of dreams interpretation, its application method and principles.


A Visit to Cyberport - Hong Kong’s IT Hub - 6 Sep, 2003 Reported by Joseph Chong, Environmental and Health

                                                   After years of development and over 15 billion dollars of investment, Cyberport is
                                                   now a spectacular cyber-campus, housing over 100 leading IT companies.

                                                   On 6 September, 2003, over 50 HKUGA members visited Cyberport. They visited
                                                   the Network Operations Centre and saw a presentation and a video about the
                                                   development background, state-of-the art facilities, productivity-enriching
                                                   cyber-campus culture and carefully-planned tenant-mix of the Cyberport. The
                                                   tenants in the Cyberport enjoy a 1-10 Gbps
                                                   internal private network and a unified
                                                   messaging system, which enable them to
                                                   communicate without interruption. Emphasis
                                                   was also made on a Multimedia Centre and a
                                                   Wireless Applications Research Centre in the
                                                   Cyberport.

They were also greeted by Dr. F.T. Chan of HKU Space on the background, mission and courses
offered at the Cyber Institute of HKU. Members raised constructive suggestions to improve the
contents of their courses and suggested further collaboration of the Institute with the IT industry.
