Appointment as Returning Officer: Mid-term Elections 2011

The _____________ School Board of Trustees duly appoints you as the Returning Officer
(RO) for the Board of Trustees parent representative election in 2011.

The board has determined by resolution that the date for this election will be 18 November
2011 [insert other date if applicable].

Duties

You will carry out your duties in accordance with the Education (School Trustee Elections)
Regulations 2000. These prescribe that:

       5        Returning officers

              (4)     Every returning officer must conduct the election—

                     (a) in accordance with these regulations; and

                     (b) in accordance with the relevant election timetable; and

                     (c) otherwise as he or she thinks fit.

The regulations and guidance, including the election timetable, are contained within the
Returning Officers’ Handbook 2010. This is available at the school office or on the Trustee
Election website www.trustee-election.co.nz. You may also contact the NZSTA election
helpdesk for assistance on 0800 elections (0800 353 284).

Advice to NZSTA

For the purpose of support during this process you should advise NZSTA that you have been
appointed and provide them with a contact email address and phone number. This will enable
you to be provided with information updates relevant to the election process. You can register
with NZSTA on the returning officers’ section of www.trustee-election.co.nz.

Fee

The board has established the following fee for the work to be undertaken.
The fee will be calculated from the base amount and per pupil amounts below. The fee will be
50% of the base amount plus 25% of the per pupil amount and will be paid in full regardless
of whether or not there is a voting election [or specify other agreed fee].

Current funding figures:

       $ 612.60 – base grant
       $ 7.01 – per pupil funding for all schools except intermediates
       $ 10.50 – per pupil funding for intermediates only

Rates are GST inclusive.
