Alternative “A”
• Low impact, restoration focused
• Works to restore prairie pothole to pre-
settlement condition
Alternative “B”
• Moderate Impact, Balanced Approach
CONCEPTUAL
• Works to balance vegetation restoration with
ALTERNATIVES
lower-impact human use
Alternative “C”
• Moderate Impact, Recreation Approach
• Works to restore native vegetation and
maintain Graber Pond as an open water
resource
Wednesday, September 6, 2006
Low Impact, Restoration Focused
Works to restore prairie pothole to pre-settlement
condition
– Protects all steep slopes
– Assumed wetland edge is the point of beginning for
buffer
– Provides a 75’ buffer around assumed wetland edge
– Protects infiltration buffer outside of wetland edge
based on soils analysis
ALTERNATI – Provides min. 2 access points for overlooks
VE “A” • Access points are located in areas with shallow
slopes without removing native vegetation
• Existing access point is utilized
• New access point provides further access to the
northern portion of Graber Pond
– No loop trail
– Assumes land west of High Road will be developed
as a Community Park with recreation facilities
Wednesday, September 6, 2006
Goals:
• Restore Graber Pond to pre-settlement prairie
pothole vegetation community
• Provide greater human access to Graber Pond
while continuing to focus on restoration
GOALS • Enhance Graber Pond’s educational potential,
specifically about kettles and prairie pothole
communities
• Create new opportunities to link Graber Pond with
City of Middleton and regional pedestrian and
bicycle trail systems.
Wednesday, September 6, 2006
Objectives:
• Plan and implement vegetation restoration plan to
protect existing native vegetation and restore
Graber to a prairie pothole community
• Construct trail segments that introduce visitors to
diverse areas of Graber Pond.
• Connect Graber Pond to regional conservancy
OBJECTIV lands through greenways and buffers
ES
• Connect pedestrian access points at Graber Pond
to regional pedestrian systems
• Strive to mimic natural infiltration processes
through Alternative Best Management Practices
(ABMP) stormwater designs as the Graber Pond
watershed develops.

Graber Pond Master Plan:
• Strand Associates completing preliminary
design for Schneider Road connection
– Potentially use roadway as northern East-
West connector
– Graber Road is southern East-West
connector
• Provide safe pedestrian north/south connector
MASTER PLAN • Permanently protect 75’ buffer around existing
approximated wetland edge
• Identify key areas for storm water
management
• Link Graber Pond to Pheasant Branch
Conservancy through utility easement
• Large part of the master plan is the vegetation
restoration phased approach
