					Writing a Style Analysis Essay
Due Date:

Your assignment is to write an essay analyzing the cinematic style of director Tim Burton. Your
essay will focus on the ways in which the director uses stylistic techniques across films to achieve
a desired effect.

Steps
Prewriting

    1. Review the graphic organizers (charts) and double-entry journals you have completed
throughout the unit, and consider the multiple examples of Tim Burton’s stylistic choices.
Make a list of the stylistic elements you can incorporate into your essay. Narrow
your list to include only three or four stylistic techniques for which you have clear
       examples.

    2. Create a thesis statement in which you identify the stylistic techniques you will discuss.

    3. Complete the style analysis flee map (attached) as your prewriting strategy.

Drafting

    4. Draft your essay. Consult your prewriting notes and flee map. Use ample support for
each of your topics. Continue to refer to your charts and double-entry journals for
       assistance.

Revising

    5. Share your draft with your Writing Group. Your peers should consult the rubric (on the
back) to guide their responses and suggestions on the feedback form with a focus on your
essay’s ideas (stylistic techniques), organization, and use of language.

    6. Consider the feedback, and incorporate desired changes into your new draft. Make
changes on your rough draft in different-colored pen. Make sure you turn in your
feedback response form with your rough draft and final copy.

Editing for Publication (Final Copy)

    7. Type your essay in Word, using MLA format (use format example).

    8. Use your available resources (spell check, dictionaries, mom and dad) to edit for
correctness of grammar and conventions and prepare your essay for publication.

    9. Essays are due in Net School on Thursday, December 16, 2010.

Items to Turn In
