Frequently Asked Questions About the Annual Fund
1. What is the Annual Fund?
Landmark’s Annual Fund is one of the College’s most significant fundraising efforts.
Annual Fund gifts assist in bridging the gap between tuition revenue and the College’s
operating budget. Moreover, the financial support and flexibility afforded the College
by the unrestricted nature of Annual Fund donations give Landmark the ability to
respond to new opportunities and address its most pressing needs within any given
fiscal year. Put simply, Annual Fund dollars touch every aspect of student life.
2. Will my donation make a difference in other ways?
Yes, your support for the Annual Fund is critical. Other donors reference employee
support for the annual fund as a “proxy” that demonstrates our level of commitment to
the College’s mission. Thus, donors and foundations always want to see a high
percentage of employee participation in the Annual Fund when they are making a
decision about whether to provide an Annual Fund contribution to Landmark College.
3. Will my Annual Fund donation be tax deductible?
Yes, and you will receive proof of your donation by a letter of acknowledgement and a
receipt. If needed, simply contact your tax accountant for more information.
4. Where does my money go? Can it go directly to my operating budget?
Most Annual Fund gifts are “unrestricted” and may be used for any kind of budget relief.
“Targeted” Annual Fund gifts are used for budget relief in the target category (not for
new, unbudgeted expenses). Target categories include Academics, Faculty
Development, the Landmark College Institute for Research and Training, Library,
Student Scholarships, and “Other” (with the opportunity to specify).
If gifts are restricted for purchasing specific items, the gift cannot be recorded as an
Annual Fund gift, it is processed as “restricted” and deposited into a separate general
ledger account to be used according to the donor’s wishes.
5. Who gives to the Landmark Annual Fund?
We receive support from current and past faculty and staff, alumni, parents, Board
members, and friends. Also, over the years, we have received gifts from over 90 general
and family foundations. Over $2.5M in gifts combined for the Annual Fund and Capital
Giving have been raised from foundations since Landmark opened its doors.
6. How can I make a gift to the Annual Fund?
Annual gifts can be made in many convenient ways. Many donors choose to make their
gift online at www.landmark.edu (look for “Make a Gift” at the top center of the page).
Others simply mail a donation to Carol Nardino, Landmark College, P.O. Box 820,
Putney, VT 05346
If you are a current employee, you can make a gift via payroll deduction and spread your
gift over a period of time, or pay by check or credit card. Payroll deduction forms are
available at community meetings and in the faculty/staff lounge in Admin., along with
annual giving envelopes that can be placed in Carol Nardino’s or Lisa Lawrence’s mailbox
in the Business Office. You can also stop by Admin. Room 106 and talk to Carol or Lisa.
7. I know that I get a receipt and an acknowledgement letter – but what can I do if I
don’t remember when and if I gave during the current Annual Fund period?
You can call or email Carol Nardino (X6877) or Lisa Lawrence (X6879) at any time to
check your giving status: firstname.lastname@example.org
