									                               MEMORIAL SEATS

The Town Council welcomes the provision of memorial seats as a tribute to a
loved one which also provides a benefit to the community. Such a memorial will
last for the ‘life’ of the seat. The location and fixing of a seat is subject to the
agreement of the Council and the relevant land owner. Set out below is a list of
locations which have been identified as suitable for additional seats. The Council
will maintain the seat for its natural life, unfortunately the Council cannot take
responsibility for malicious damage or stolen seats.

The seats purchased are made from recycled plastic but are finished to look like
natural wood. This type of seat is more durable than wood and less susceptible to
malicious damage. Inscriptions are engraved onto a brass plaque and secured to
the seat. The plaques are approximately 9 inches by 2 inches, inscriptions may
consist of no more than three lines with a maximum of 26 characters and spaces on
each line.

For a one off donation (£350 if situated on hardstanding, £400 if on soft ground)
the Council will arrange to purchase the seat together with an engraved plaque and
arrange the necessary works to fix the seat in the chosen location. Once donated,
the seat will be retained in situ for 20 years. At the end of that period there will be
an option to renew the agreement subject to the condition of the seat and any terms
and conditions relevant at that time.

Where seats are removed, either at the end of the period of agreement or when they
are damaged beyond economic repair, the plaque will be relocated to a suitable
memorial site. Where there is no plaque the original engraving will be reproduced,
at the Council’s expense, to be fixed to a suitable memorial site.
