INFORMATION FOR NEW CANDIDATES

                               What is Beta Alpha Psi?
Beta Alpha Psi is a National Honorary Accounting Organization. The Gamma Rho
Chapter at Western Michigan University is a vital organization of accounting and finance
students which has been active on campus for 40 years. While membership implies past
academic achievements, emphasis in the organization is on professional development of
members and the advancement of the profession. Active involvement is required and
helps prepare students for the leadership roles they will assume during their careers.

Who may join?
Eligible accounting majors and finance or information systems majors with accounting
minors who express interest in Beta Alpha Psi membership will be invited to become
initiates.

Eligibility requirements:
Undergraduate:
      GPA of 3.0 or higher overall or 3.25 or higher in last 30 hours completed
      Average GPA of 3.0 or higher in upper level accounting courses
      Accounting major or minor
      Completed ACTY 2100 & 2110
Graduate:
      Accepted into the MSA program
      GPA of 3.0 or higher

Dues?
Initiates: $130 by February 9 ($75 for initiation and $55 for membership dues)
Inactive re-joining members: $55 by February 9
Please make checks payable to Beta Alpha Psi.

Dress code?
Professional dress is required for meetings and professional events unless announced
otherwise.

Benefits of joining BAP?
       Gain knowledge about the profession at weekly meetings where professionals of
        various accounting firms and other employers present
       Network with professionals and peers
       Learn skills that can aid in your search for internships and/or full-time positions
       Help other WMU students by tutoring ACTY 2100 & 2110 and help your
        community by volunteering at various events

Thursday, January 19 at 6:00 p.m. in Room 1360. Enjoy some free pizza, meet our
people, and learn more about our organization. Please note that the dress code is
casual for this meeting.
Candidate Requirements
Meetings
Candidates must attend all meetings
Meetings are held every Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in Schneider Hall Room 1360

Tutoring
Candidates must complete 20 hours of tutoring
Tutoring is scheduled twice weekly for students of Acty 2100 & 2110
Begins Tuesday, January 17 and ends Wednesday, April 18
    Tuesdays 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Schneider Hall Room 1275
    Wednesdays 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Schneider Hall Room 1275

Community Service
Candidates must complete 8 hours of community service
Can receive credit toward community service by picking up the tutoring books
Extra tutoring hours may fulfill this requirement, if approved

Social Events
Candidates must attend at least one social event
Socials are likely to occur outside of the regular meeting time

Banquet
Candidates must attend the banquet on April 19, 2012
Candidates who have fulfilled the above requirements will be inducted as
members of BAP

Committees
Candidates must participate in a committee
Committees include: Event planning, Photography, Mentorship, Community
service
