DUPLICATE LICENSE PLATES
Procedures for vehicle owners that have a lost/stolen Japanese
The owner will go to the local Japanese National Police station
and file a lost/stolen license plate report. The owner will
also go to the local Military Police/Law Enforcement Desk and
file a lost/stolen license plate report.
After receiving a report from both the military and Japanese
Police the owner will report to the Vehicle Registration office.
The Vehicle Registration clerk will complete two worksheets, a
Duplicate License Plate form, and a Processing form.
The owner will be directed to the GOJ section and will pay a
¥300 processing fee.
The owner will turn in all the paperwork to the Land
Transportation Office, window #2 and receive a new title.
Proceed to window D and pay ¥1,880 for a new license plate. You
will drive your vehicle to a designated area at the Land
Transportation office where your license plates and the seal
will be placed on the vehicle.
Once the license plates are placed on the vehicle return to the
Vehicle Registration office lane 1 and receive a new Military
