Celebrity splash out for Tommy’s
LONDON - Tommy’s, the baby charity is delighted to announce that one of
television’s yummiest mummies, Nancy Sorrell, will be supporting this year’s
Splashathon, sponsored by Splash About and supported by First Choice.
Nancy will support hundreds of little splashers up and down the country in July and
August who are ‘splashing’ a width or length of their local swimming pool, in return
for sponsorship. The money raised by each baby or toddler will go to Tommy’s,
which funds research into the causes of miscarriage, premature birth and stillbirth.
"The Splashathon is a fantastic event for mother and baby alike," says model,
actress and TV presenter, Nancy Sorrell. "I'm also pleased to participate in
something that will help raise awareness of Tommy's great work towards saving
Desri Goodwin from Splash About commented: “We are overjoyed that we are
sponsoring Tommy's Splashathon for the second year. It promises to be a great
event. Not only will the children have a fun time, they will also be helping other
children get the healthiest start to life.”
Rosie Nash from Tommy's said: “Swimming is a great bonding experience
between parent and baby and we're delighted so many people have joined this year’s
Splashathon. All the monies raised will go towards funding vital research into the
causes and prevention of miscarriage, premature birth and stillbirth. We believe
every child deserves the best chance to be born healthy and that’s really something
to splash about!”
A 2007 survey conducted by Tommy’s revealed that swimming provides an
invaluable way for parents to boost the bond between themselves and their child.
The survey of over 1,000 parents showed that 1 in 5 parents felt more connected
with their child after they had been swimming together (21%), and more than 1 in 4
mums and dads said that swimming with their child gave them greater confidence in
their skills as a parent (27%). Swimming also improved the mood of the children
with almost 1 in 4 parents saying that their child seemed in a happier mood after
they had been swimming (23%).
