POST DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
A postdoctoral position in mass spectrometry-based proteomics is available immediately
in the Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences Program directed by Dr. X.
Nancy Xu at Old Dominion University. One research project involves the development
and application of mass spectrometer (MALDI) methods for identification of protein
markers and proteomic analysis of organisms. The other research project involves the
development of mass spectrometry imaging method for molecular characterization of
cellular and tissue samples for biochemical and biomedical applications.
Candidates should have Ph.D. in chemistry, biophysics, biochemistry, molecular and
cell biology, microbiology, protein engineering or related area, and have strong
background in chemistry, ultrasensitive detection, protein chemistry, molecular and cell
biology, or microbiology.
As a member of our research group, one will have full access to modern chemistry and
biological chemistry facilities and have a variety of significant opportunities to engage in
forefront chemistry, biochemistry and biomedical research. Norfolk is a beautiful city that
is near the ocean, with many cultural attractions and only a three hour drive from
Washington D.C. There are several research laboratories nearby, including Naval
Research Laboratories, NASA Langley Research Center and the Thomas Jefferson
National Lab which all offer many exciting collaborative opportunities.
Applicants with a strong commitment to original research and a demonstrated
excellence in chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, microbiology, or molecular and cell
biology research are strongly encouraged to apply. Please send a cover letter,
curriculum vitae and three letters of reference to Old Dominion University Research
