GROUP LESSONS (Early Childhood Music, Keyboard, & Group Singing)

This class is designed to bring the joy of music and movement to toddlers and their parents. Activities include singing, chanting, moving, dancing, focused listening and simple instrument playing, creating an environment in which the child's music aptitude is nurtured and skills are developed. This class is designed to nurture the emergent independence of the 3, 4 and 5 year old. Activities include singing, chanting, moving, exploring musical instruments, focused listening, and musical games, all of which nurture the child's musical development while satisfying the child's need to learn in a holistic environment. *Keyboard for Children (Ages 4-5 & 5-6)
This program is ideal for motivating children who are interested in music or playing the keyboard. It offers an introduction to music fundamentals and basic skills on the keyboard, along with preparation for private lessons. The curriculum includes keyboard playing, singing, playing in a percussion ensemble, and ear training. There will be Mini Concert at the end of the session. Parent participation is required. *Group Singing Lessons (Ages 6-11)
Group singing lesson is for students who love to sing but have little or no experience. The class focuses on correct posture, basic breathing technique, vocal warm-ups, Kodaly hand-signs, building confidence, and developing the aptitude for music appreciation. In addition to singing traditional songs, students will explore different styles, such as Disney, Broadway, or popular repertoire. There will be Mini Concert at the end of the session. PRIVATE LESSONS (PIANO & VOICE)
Private lessons provide students the opportunity to learn practice skills, develop technical skill, improve musicianship, and gain repertoire knowledge and appreciation. Repertoire includes classical music, children’s songs, popular music and more. Students will attend the annual performance and take an annual piano examination. Private lessons can be started at anytime during the year. A registration fee for all new students is $40 (one-time). Instructor: Masako Yamamoto
Masako Yamamoto holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) and an M.S. degree in music education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also holds a B.A. in music (major in voice and minor in piano) from the Elizabeth University of Music in Hiroshima, Japan. Ms. Yamamoto’s teaching career started after completing her undergraduate study, and she has been teaching music for more than 25 years. She has taught music classes in middle schools, special education schools, preschools, and at music studios in Japan and in the US. Besides music, she has taught Japanese language/culture in elementary schools and at the university level. Currently, she is teaching group music programs as well as piano and voice privately. She has also performed in various concerts, including two solo voice recitals as a guest artist (Urbana, IL) and the role of “Duchess” in Verdi’s opera “Rigoletto” at Illinois Opera Theater.
