6th Grade HOMEWORK POLICY
READING HOMEWORK: In conjunction with the Road to Success reading program, students
are assigned to read 20 minutes seven times a week, for a total of 140 minutes per week.
LANGUAGE ARTS HOMEWORK: Students will be writing a great deal this year. Much of
what will be taught is how to use the correct format with an emphasis on content. It would be
highly beneficial for students to have parents proofread their writing throughout the year.
MATH HOMEWORK: Students will be expected to know addition, subtraction, multiplication
and division facts. If these are not committed to memory it is extremely difficult to instruct
students on math procedures. Please be sure to REVIEW, REVIEW, REVIEW math facts.
Students will be given a reasonable amount of time to work on their Math assignments in class.
Any assignment that is not finished in class must be completed at home and returned the next
day to be corrected.
The math textbook is available online. Students will be given directions on how to access it from
home. The online textbook is a great resource, containing a video tutorial for each assignment.
SOCIAL STUDIES and SCIENCE HOMEWORK: Projects will be assigned throughout the
year.

Grades are posted on the portal, located on the district web page. They can be
accessed through your teacher’s blog.
Road to Success reading minutes and weekly progress reports will be due each
Tuesday morning.
Absent Work
Students are responsible for gathering work they missed while absent. It is
important to check all teacher blogs to ensure all work is made up in order to earn
full credit.
Absent work is due within one week of the student’s return to school.
Unprepared Work
Assignments are considered “unprepared” if they are incomplete or are missing
at the time of correcting.
There will be a weekly “Prepared” incentive activity on Friday afternoons, (Fun
Free Friday). This is for students who are prepared on all of their assignments
during the week, including reading minutes and progress reports.
