Who should be attending school?
In accordance with state law, “All parents and guardians shall cause their children or
wards who are aged group five to sixteen years, inclusive, to regularly attend a public or
private school or kindergarten in this State which as been approved by the State
Department of Education.”
Admission/Enrollment Information
All school admissions in the Chester County School District will be in accordance with
the South Carolina law and the Chester County School District Board Policies.
Under SouthCarolins law, the school district may admit a student who lives in the district
provided that the students meet one of the following criteria.
• lives with his/her parent
• lives with his/her legal guardian (Note: Temporary custdy is not considered
legal guardianship unless by court order).
• is emancipated
• is homeless or is a child of a homeless individual, as defined in Public Law
100-77.
• lives in a residental community-based care facility licensed by the South
Carolina Department of Social Services or operated by the South Carolina
Department of Social Services or the South Carolina Department of Youth
Services.
New to the district? Follow these steps to enroll your child.
Review age requirements.
Children must be age four on or by September 1st to attend classes for four-year-olds.
Children must be age five on or by September 1st to attend classes for five-year-olds.
To attend first grade, children must be six years old on or by September 1st.
Provide necessary documentation.
When students are enrolled, the following items must be provided to the school:
child's legal birth certificate - Birth certificates are available from the health
department in the county where the child was born.
S.C. Certificate of Immunization - Certificates of immunization are available from
the health department or the child's physician.
child's social security number - Social Security numbers are not required but the
school would like to make a copy if student has one. You may acquire a social
security card from the Social Security Administration.
proof of residence - Proof of residency can be established by presenting two of the
following; a current electric bill, gas bill, telephone bill or lease/rental agreement
that includes your name and current address.
