The microeconomic benefits of lower costs
of doing business in Industry & reduced household energy
expenditures.

India’s Position: Indian National Action Plan on Climate
Change aims to boost solar power generation besides
launching seven other programmes in mission mode
towards greenhouse gas reduction and adaptation

1000 MWs of power generation capacity by the end of the
12th plan period (2017) in the renewable power portfolio
.

Economic advantages of the Green Economy…..Contd.

• 10,000 MWs by 2012 through energy efficiency
  measures.
• Fiscal incentives to move industry,
manufacturers and consumers towards a low-
carbon path. More energy efficient Appliance
manufacturers would get tax benefits & aided to
  move to better technologies
• Avoiding a tax on polluting industries
• businesses taking concerted action now to
become energy efficient , likely to be far better
prepared when the tax is finally imposed.

Masdar City is a 6 sqkm zero-carbon, zero-waste, car-free city that is being built in
Abu Dhabi that will house 50,000 inhabitants and provide a completely sustainable
environment for them. The electrical energy requirements are provided by the
integrated solar farm + panels on all the buildings, the transportation is provided by
personal pods that are driven by electricity, water is provided thru the desalination
plant run by PV generated electricity, cultivation happens thru the usage of grey
water, air is cooled via cooling towers, the roads are laid out to be narrow and
shaded, etc.
This is a benchmark project that shows what system integration can do that
addresses both the generation side and the consumption side of the energy
equation. The project cost is about 15B USD, and the completion target is Q1-2009.
This project is a paradigm shift in how small communities should be planned and
constructed.
