Instructions to prepare for Interpreter’s Rx lessons:

                         English and Spanish Sight Translation Lessons

        Quickly scan the text (take no more than 2 minutes).
        Read the text aloud in the source language.
        Sight-translate the text into the target language without stopping to consult a dictionary.
        Research meaning and translation of unfamiliar terms.
        Continue to practice sight-translating the text.
        Once you feel comfortable with the lesson, record your performance on tape. Listen and
         make improvements as needed.



                                       Consecutive Lessons

      Listen to the entire audio text.
      Try interpreting consecutively without stopping to consult a dictionary. Use the pause
       feature as you are practicing.
      Practice taking notes for the first time for each lesson.
      Research meaning and translation of unfamiliar terms.
      Continue to use the audio texts to practice interpreting consecutively, taking notes as
       well as using memory techniques.
      Once you feel comfortable with the lesson, record your performance on tape. Listen and
       make improvements as needed.



                                      Simultaneous Lessons

        Listen to both audio texts (shadowing and interpreting sections).
        Do shadowing and simultaneous exercises without stopping to consult a dictionary.
        Research meaning and translation of unfamiliar terms.
        Continue to practice shadowing techniques, as well as dual-task techniques.
        Continue to practice the interpreting lesson simultaneously.
        Once you feel comfortable with the lesson, record your performance on tape. Listen and
         make improvements as needed.

            field component activities. ** count as 2 field hours.
           Rough Draft packet due 11/7. No further rough drafts shall be accepted after this date.
            Work will be returned to student for corrections to be made on 11/21.
           CORRECTED, TYPED, PRESENTABLE FINAL VERSION DUE 12/5/09. NONE
            WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER 12/5/09. NO EXCEPTIONS.
           DO NOT take this activity lightly. In order to get the credit, these translations must be
            very well done. If you cannot take the time to do so, do not attempt to obtain field credit
            this way. It will be time poorly spent.
