     promising practices that serve older adults and their
     families
   • Objective – reduce the risk of disease and disability
     among older adults
        Focus Areas include: interventions in disease
         management, falls prevention, nutrition,
         physical activity, depression, financial elder
         abuse, and medication management

   • Medicare, Lowering Drug Costs, Generics, Reimportation

   • Older American Act programs provide senior centers, congregate and
     home-delivered meals, elder abuse protection, and support for family
     caregivers

   • Nursing home safety, patient abuse prevention, investment fraud

Emergency Preparedness for Seniors
   • Lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina
Assisting Seniors with Rising Energy Costs
   • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program provides heat and energy
     crisis assistance to senior citizens and poor working families.
Affordable Senior Housing
   • Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly Program – provides grants
     to non-profits and community organizations for the development of
     supportive housing and rental assistance for very low-income seniors
