Note: if you are having trouble installing on your version of Windows, you might consider downloading and installing “Windows Vista Business DVD with SP1” from the CIS MSDNAA. I am running Windows Vista Business. Download the ISO file for Visual Studio 2008 Enterprise from the CIS MSDNAA website Create a DVD from the file: en_visual_studio_2008_professional_x86_x64wow_dvd_X14-26326.iso Insert the DVD and start SETUP.EXE. Click Install. Click Next. Accept and click next Click Next Click Install. I had to close Google desktop. I had to cancel setup in order to stop Google Desktop. Once I had Google Desktop stopped, I restarted installation as above. The installation continued… Click Finish. I have disc space so I plan to install the MSDN library. Click Finish. Click check for service releases using Microsoft update. I had five… Install. And so finished. Launch Visual Studio 2008. We want to choose the general setting because we will be developing in both C# and VB.Net. Then I received this message. Perhaps, similar to Visual Studio 2005, we need to “run as administrator.” I clicked No. No, still got the message. So what does that mean? Apparently the problem is fixed in Visual Studio Service Pack 1. I need to install it still. Forgot… Close VS 2008 and install service pack 1. Download the ISO file from the CIS MSDNAA or from Microsoft’s website. Start the installer for SP1. Click Next. Accept and click next. And wait… Click finish It didn’t say to, but I rebooted. Good. VS loaded without error.
