CHRIS KUGLER MEMORAIL SCHOLARSHIP TRUST

Chris Kugler, a 1992 graduate of Piper High School, was a six foot five Korean born American, who
possessed the kind of presence that transformed the space in which he stood. Still, there was no one around
him that was so small, so frail or so different not to be worth the time he took to show them that he genuinely
cared about them. Chris died in a canoeing accident in Park City, Utah on March 25, 2001.
In Chris’s memory and in an effort to sustain his legacy in the classroom, athletics and his
commitment to his community, a group of Chris’s friends, together with his parents, have created the Chris
Kugler Memorial Scholarship Trust. The Trust provides annual scholarship grants to a graduating Piper
High School senior. Each Piper High School graduating senior is qualified to submit a scholarship
application, except students who are related to the Trust’s Trustee, Ryan Eidson, or any of its Directors, who
are: Charles Kugler, Ryan Eidson, Adam Turley, Luke Folscroft, Steve Turney, James Turney, Brad
Lightfoot, Jason Knetter, and Terry Eidson. The scholarship trust is primarily funded through an annual golf
tournament in Chris’s name.
This year, the Trust is pleased to offer scholarship grants of $500 for eight semesters of college or
university study ($4,000 total) to one graduating senior chosen by the Directors. The Directors will also
choose an alternate student who will receive the grants if the original recipient does not enroll in a college or
university for the first fall semester after being awarded the scholarship.
Each applicant’s name and any other identifying information will be removed from his or her
application by the Piper High School guidance counselor, so the Directors will not know the identify of the
applicants when they choose the grant recipient. The grant recipient and the Trust will enter into a
scholarship contract that sets out the specifics of the scholarship grant. For more information, please refer to
the “Description of the Trust” that is available from the Piper High School guidance counselor or discuss
your question with the guidance counselor.
Do not contact the Trust’s Trustee or any Director regarding any scholarship matter.
If you are qualified and want to submit a scholarship application, please type (do not complete in
handwriting) your answers to the questions on the following page and return your application to Mrs. Johns
by April 15, 2011. Attach additional typed pages, if necessary. The scholarship grant recipient will be
announced in May at the Senior Breakfast.
