August 6, 2012 RE: Cruickshank Middle School Athletics for 2012-2013 Dear Tiger Parents and Students, With the turbulent financial times we are in, there have been many justifiable questions and concerns about the impact of budget cuts on our district’s middle school sports program. This letter will clarify the structure of our sports program for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year. In short, our athletics program remains intact, but we will need support from parent volunteers to provide transportation for sporting events and for fund- raising. In 2012-2013, we will continue to offer the same sports as in the past. The school year starts right off with volleyball, cross country, boys soccer, and cheerleading. Later in the fall semester, we offer girls soccer and boys basketball. Spring semester sports include girls basketball, wrestling, softball, baseball, and track. Also as in the past, students must have a current physical and parent permission form on file in the office and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA to be eligible to try out for sports. More details about student eligibility for extracurricular activities are available in the CMS student agenda. The budget cuts did impact the athletics program in that the district will not provide funding for bus transportation for athletics. To solve this problem, we will be seeking to raise site funds to try to pay for one-way trips to events. Also, we will be asking parent volunteers to drive our athletes to and/or from athletic competitions. The process to clear volunteers is currently being developed and will be in place very soon. The process is sure to require volunteer drivers to provide a copy of their auto insurance declarations page to ensure they meet the minimum required coverage. The leadership of CMS considers the challenge of maintaining the integrity of our sports program as an opportunity to work together to make Tiger athletics better than ever! Please feel free to contact me or Stephanie Dietz, our Athletics Boosters Club president, if you have questions or want to get involved. Finally, please check the “Sports Corner” of our website regularly for updates on the Boosters Club, schedules, coach’s lists, and downloadable blank forms. Chuck Aliberto Assistant Principal/Athletic Director
