Dorset Knob Throwing and Frome Valley Food Fest 2010
The third annual event was held in Cattistock on Sunday 2rd May, in association with Direct from
Dorset, the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) partnership and of course Moores
producers of the famous Dorset Knob.
The Festival ran from 10am until just after 4.00pm and besides the traditional Knob Throwing
there was fun knob attractions including Knob Painting, a Knob & Spoon Race, Guess the weight of
the Big Knob, and Knob Darts.
Direct from Dorset supplied a huge luxurious hamper made by The Fridge an associate member of
Direct from Dorset in Dorchester to the winner of the Dorset Knob Raffle, with donations for the
hamper from The Dorset Game Larder, Boastys Best, Genesis and Chococo all full members of
Direct from Dorset.
Producers were out in force show casing the very best of what Dorset and Somerset have to offer
in delicious mouth watering produce. There were samples to be tasted, and hot food for sale as
well as the stall holders selling their products which included a range of foods, breads, cheeses,
ciders, meats, game & poultry, pies, preserves, and puddings in addition to chocolate, coffee and
wine supplied by well respected local businesses. There were non-food producers selling still
locally sourced products and everyone had a great time tasting testing and buying local.
Nigel said “We think we were busier than we were last year despite the fact the sun was shining
then and we had drizzly rain yesterday.
“We had a marquee so people could be undercover and the day was just absolutely fantastic.”
He added: “No records were broken but it was extremely windy which might have had something
to do with it.”
Nigel Collins also thanked the volunteers and food producers who help the day run smoothly
