HARVARD PROGRAM FOR INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION

H ARV AR D P ROGR AM FOR I NTER NATIO NAL E DU CATIO N FALL 2009 NEW TUTOR APPLICATION Due Thursday, September 17th by midnight to hpie.irc@gmail.com WELCOME TO HPIE! Thank you for your interest in the Harvard Program for International Education, a student-run program that aims to give Harvard undergraduates hands-on teaching experience while educating high school students about world affairs. This fall, pairs of tutors will be leading weekly classes in one of Boston’s public schools on the theme of “Globalization.” HPIE believes in team teaching as a means both to introduce new teachers to new classroom settings and to enable them to lead more activity-based lessons. We emphasize fun and creative approaches to teaching, rather than straight lectures. The time commitment is roughly 3 to 5 hours a week, including travel, class preparation, and our weekly lesson planning meetings. We provide full training for our tutors, as well as material resources. We believe HPIE offers a truly exceptional experience to teach and inspire Boston high school students, and we’re so excited to welcome you to the program! Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions on the program, or the application!
