Future Quest Summer Experience
STAFF POSITIONS AVAILABLE
July 31st – August 22nd, 2011
Future Quest is an innovative program that provides up to 24 youth age 14-17 from across Canada with
opportunities to explore community, theology, leadership and religion by challenging body, mind and spirit.
The Future Quest program is now seeking up to FIVE staff to work from July 31st – August 22nd, 2011 in
our ninth annual Summer Experience for youth. Applications must be submitted by March 1, 2011.
Staff are expected to demonstrate strong leadership skills as well as team work. Staff actively
involve youth in aspects of community living, theological reflection, exploration of various
religious traditions and program leadership using a variety of educational methods.
Successful applicants will be required to effectively and creatively weave the exploration of
community, theology, leadership and religion in ways that challenge the body, mind and spirit.
This will be accomplished through daily activities of classroom seminars, spiritual practices,
recreational activities, community service, and a canoe/camping trip.
Selected staff members will also be expected to (a) maintain monthly contact with five participants
for six months after the Summer Experience; and, (b) attend and assist at a weekend Reunion Retreat
to be held in the winter of 2012.
The following is expected of staff members:
To work co-operatively as a team for long hours in an intense community atmosphere
To provide an affirming, challenging, and enriching environment for participants
To ensure the safety of participants while engaged in all on/off-campus activities
To manage participant accommodation, food and transportation logistics
To plan, facilitate, and evaluate program components, such as:
- community-building and reflection activities
- theological inquiry and conversation
- leadership development
- spiritual practices and liturgical worship
- a canoe or hiking trip
- social justice experiences
- physical and recreational activities
At least one year of work, university, or college experience post-high school.
Some experience working with youth
Knowledge, skills and values that respectfully inform and inspire others in matters related to
community, theology, leadership and religion.
Good organizational and conflict resolution skills; while maintaining the ability to connect with
youth in a fun and confidence-building environment.
Able and willing to be responsible for facilitating a safe, holistic and challenging experience for
staff and youth.
Some qualifications expected in the following areas (but not necessarily all):
- First Aid/CPR or NLS or ORCA Level I
- Driver’s License and ability to drive a 8-12 passenger van.
- Canoe/Camping experience preferred.
Staff are responsible to the Future Quest Program Coordinator, who reports directly to the Director
Of Finance, Administration, Development, at Queen’s School of Religion.
Offers of employment will be conditional upon reference and criminal record checks
(provided at applicant’s expense).
Program preparation is primarily the responsibility of the Future Quest Coordinator. However,
staff will have input into program preparation through electronic and on-site interaction with the
Coordinator before and during the Summer Experience.

Short-listed candidates will be invited to an interview/selection day scheduled in March. The exact
date will be finalized once the candidates are selected.
