                                    CCAG Educator Workshop July 12-22, 2004

DIRECTIONS:

      Now that you have almost completed the CCAG educator workshop, please
       develop and submit your action plan to Barbara Maggi. Your action plan will act
       as a guide to assist you with developing your regional workshop and teaching
       unit. Remember to incorporate the “science” of the missions in both your
       teaching unit and your regional workshop.
      Before you begin, download this Microsoft Word document to your desktop. Fill
       in the blanks and then email the document as an attachment to:
       Barbara.maggi@hamptonu.edu
      CC a copy to each member of your group
      Please note that all approved plans will be posted on the CALIPSO and/or
       CloudSat websites. This includes information about your regional workshop and
       your teaching unit.

   Examples: We plan to conduct the workshop for teachers in our school district.
   We plan to offer the workshop during staff development at our school only. We
   plan to offer the workshop to special needs teachers. ETC.

17) Do you plan to offer credit through Hampton University?

       a. To do so you must have prior approval by Dr. Dianne Q. Robinson /
          Barbara H. Maggi.
       b. One hour of science credit is available for approved workshops lasting a
          minimum of 1 day.
       c. Cost to each participant will be $213.

18) How will you evaluate the workshop?

19) Do you plan on using the NEEIS evaluation system (ask Barbara Maggi about this
    if you do).

20) Do you plan on providing photos of your workshop for the CALIPSO website?

       a. If yes, they must be sent to Barbara Maggi and you must have photo
          releases for all participants.

21) Please list any additional information you want us to know about your regional
    workshop. Examples: I plan to recruit a guest speaker from one of the missions.
    I plan to incorporate examples of student work. I plan to develop a website
    dedicated to the workshop. I plan to develop an online tutorial that I will demo at
    the workshop ETC.

B. Teaching Unit Directions and Action Plan

1) REQUIRED: All teachers are required to complete a teaching unit.
   Administrators are not required to complete a teaching unit, but are encouraged to
   contribute to the ideas for the units developed by the teachers in their group.

2) FORMAT AND STYLE GUIDE: Please use the lesson plan format and style
   guide provided to you at the workshop. This is also available online at
   http://calipsooutreach.hamptonu.edu Once you’re at the website click on CCAG
   educator workshop and look in the area called “handouts”.

3) DUE DATE: All teaching units are due by November 1, 2004. Submit all
   teaching units electronically to Barbara Maggi.

4) STIPEND: Once we receive your teaching unit, a $200 stipend will be sent to
   each member of the group.

5) Please give us a brief description of the theme or topic(s) you plan to develop in
   your teaching unit. Be as specific as possible. Examples: We plan to develop a
   unit on remote sensing and focus on the CALIPSO and CloudSat missions; We
   plan to develop a unit on climate change incorporating data collection of aerosol
   optical thickness (AOT) using the sun photometer; We plan to develop a unit on
   weather and incorporate data collection on clouds; ETC.

6) What lessons or activities from the CCAG workshop do you plan to use in your
   teaching unit? Brainstorm a list with your group. (A few examples might include:
   The lidar video, the sun photometer, the online games at the atmospheric arcade
   area of the CALIPSO website, The CALIPSO and CloudSat Problem-Based

       Learning activities, The GLOBE atmospheric protocols, the NASA CONNECT
       video and web activity; ETC)

   7) When do you plan to submit your teaching unit?


   C. Action Plan for Data Collection
       We plan to have our classes collect CALIPSO sun photometer data and report
         it at the GLOBE website for ________________weeks.
       We plan to have our classes collect CloudSat data and report it though
