The Rural Maryland Council (RMC), an independent state agency, which identifies
and crafts solutions for the challenges facing rural Maryland. The RMC works
collaboratively on a non-partisan basis through the development and advocating of
rural policy and program coordination, which includes convening groups,
conducting research and analysis, conducting briefings and testifying. The RMC
seeks applications for its position of Executive Director. The position is full-time
and based in Annapolis.

The successful candidate for the RMC Executive Director position is expected to
possess a combination of education, personal and professional skills, competencies,
vision and commitment that enables him/her to help the RMC build, grow and
maintain an effective coalition that shares a broadly held vision of diverse interests
and needs to enhance rural Maryland. Graduation from a college or university is
required. Although not required, an advanced degree is preferred. A track record of
proven success in a similarly complex and diverse environment is desired.
The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of rural issues such as
but not limited to, health, transportation, environment, community economic
development, housing poverty, workforce, etc. The successful candidate will
demonstrate success in working with all levels of government and organizations.
Experience working with local elected officials, state legislators, governors, and
congressional delegations is very desirable.
The successful candidate will have a history of increasing administrative and
management responsibilities experience including grants and personnel (volunteer,
salaried and contract) development and management. Demonstration of an ability
to develop capacity through creativity, to identify monetary and other resources and
to access key leaders and agencies that have enabled success for organizations is
important. A history of policy development through research and analysis,
existence of strong written and oral communication skills and a comfort level with
social media are a must for the successful candidate. The ability to work with and
lead diverse interests towards consensus is important to being effective in the
