Design a Brochure for parents and potential parents that is easy to follow, brief, and eye catching about a birth
defect. The brochure should have the following components: (This is an individual project)
A description – be sure to identify and describe the BD, and give specific information about it.
The cause – be sure to include all information known about the cause(s) of the BD. If it is unknown,
include what doctors and researchers think is/could be the cause.
Detection – be sure to include symptoms or signs associated with the BD, as well as how it is detected
(technology and techniques).
Treatment – be sure to list and describe treatment options for the BD or the symptoms, and what they
benefits of treatment are. If there is no treatment describe why.
How common it is – be sure to describe how commonly this BD occurs in the population (like 1 in 1000)
and how likely it is to happen to a pregnant woman. It is important that you also say where your found
this information (i.e. according to the March of Dimes…)
The brochure should also be:
Visually attractive (look nice)
Easy to read quickly (don’t write a novel – get to the important points quickly)
Informative (be sure your information is good!)
