BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The incumbent is responsible for the development of a comprehensive
community recreation program that includes planning, developing, scheduling, supervising, organizing, marketing,
implementing and evaluating both recurring and non-recurring activities for the following programs: Special
Events, Liberty, Navy Motion Picture Service, and Leisure; coordinates recreation information, opportunities and
needs for the target population of 18 to 24 year old unaccompanied Sailors. Receives and resolves customer
complaints, reporting any problem areas/issues beyond normal operation procedures to the supervisor. Prepares
and justifies annual operation budget for inclusion in the overall recreation division budget submission. Monitors
program attendance, income and expenses in order to prepare monthly reports. Recommends and develops
written program policies and standard operating procedures in relation to the Community Activities Program. May
serve as a Star Service Facilitator or Coordinator. Performs other related duties as assigned. May be assigned to
other facilities/program areas as needed to cover peak times, assist with special events, or cover staff shortages.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A minimum of two years of work related experience is strongly preferred.
A degree from an accredited college or university with a course of study in Recreation Management/Administration
or closely related field may be substituted for experience. Must have the ability to understand and carry out basic
verbal and written instructions. Knowledge of basic arithmetic to perform inventory accountability, computes
charges, make change accurately and prepare reports. Knowledge of basic English grammar for preparation of
records and reports. Must possess strong leadership and communication skills to effectively exercise control over
a large group of people, market the program, motivate eligible patrons and lead volunteers with minimal direction.
Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license and be able to obtain a California Class B
endorsement within 90 days of employment, as travel will be required. This position is subject to an irregular tour
of duty, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Employment is conditional on the successful
