TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES

The Ohio State University, 1984-1994

      Predoctoral Orthodontic Program

Dr. Ngan is the Pre-doctoral Orthodontic Program Director from 1984-1994. The
College at present has a four-year dental curriculum with a Class size of about 100
students. Dr. Ngan has revised the four didactic courses (Dent 556, 654, 655, 656) to
satisfy the accreditation guidelines for predoctoral orthodontic teaching of the American
Dental Association. In addition, he has implemented the pre-clinical orthodontic
laboratory course (Dent 657) to prepare the dental students for their clinical assignments.

Three years ago, Dr. Ngan implemented the Orthodontic Case Presentation Course (Dent
659). This is a series of orthodontic seminars that allow students to share their completed
orthodontic cases with their colleagues and peers. The objective of this course enabled
students to learn from the treatment of a variety of cases and different treatment methods
      taught by other instructors.

                                             32
Dr. Ngan is also the Pre-doctoral Orthodontic Clinic Director for the Pediatric
Dentistry/Orthodontic Clinic since 1984. He has implemented the orthodontic clinical
requirement in which each students is required to complete the treatment of one or more
orthodontic cases during their Junior and Senior years. The combined Pediatric
Dentistry/Orthodontic clinic has received a lot of positive comments from the students
and faculty. The advantages of such a program was published in the Journal of Dental
Education (Waggoner and Ngan et al., JDE 52:160-163, 1988). The predoctoral
orthodontic program was recently approved by the Accreditation site visit in February,
      1992.

orthodontic treatment. In addition, one didactic course (Dent 744) was added on the
curriculum in 1995. This course was given during the Winter semester of the sophomore
year, improving the diagnosis and treatment planning skills of our pre-doctoral students.
The program passed the Accreditation Site Visit in September, 1995 and 2002 with no
