Cape Fear Studios 2012 Annual National 2D Exhibit
Cape Fear Studios is proud to announce its Fourth Annual National 2D Competition. This juried
competition is open to all artists, 18 or older, in the United States. The Exhibit will be on display June
22, 2012 through July 24th, 2012 in the Cape Fear Studios Main Gallery in Fayetteville, North
Carolina. A “Best of Show” prize of $1000.00 will be awarded.
SPECIFICATIONS: Artist may submit a maximum of two original two dimensional works of art,
completed in the last two years. Works must not be copied from any other artist or published materials,
created while under supervision, nor previously exhibited in Cumberland County, North Carolina. All
entries must be for sale. Works may not exceed 48” x 48” including frame, and must be properly wired
for hanging. No saw tooth hangers. Work requiring extraordinary installation will be declined. Plexus
glass will be required on all shipped works on paper.
MEDIA: All 2-D painting and drawing media, hand pulled prints, and collage. Photographs and
digitally produced images will not be accepted.
SHOW JUROR: The juror this year is Luana Luconi Winner (www.WinnerStudios.com), whose
portraits and paintings in oil and pastel have won national and international recognition and awards,
including an international silver medal for a pastel portrait, and “Best in Show” at an international
portrait and figure competition for an oil portrait. Mrs. Winner is a two term past president of the Pastel
Society of North Carolina and a founding member and North Carolina Ambassador of the Portrait
Society of America. She was schooled in Rome, Florence, Switzerland, and the United States. Her
portraits and murals hang in corporations, universities, and residences on both sides of the ocean.
In demand as an instructor, Mrs. Winner has served as faculty for the International Association of Pastel
Societies Conferences in Albuquerque and Santa Fe; the Portrait Society of America International
Conference in Boston, Dallas, and Washington, D.C.; the American Artist Magazine Art Methods
Conference in Pasadena, CA; the Pearl Paint Great American Art Event in New York City; the Portrait
Society of Atlanta; Cheap Joe’s in Boone, NC, and Jerry’s Art of the Carolinas and Artspace in Raleigh,
NC. Her Italian workshops have been sell-outs for students who enjoy experiencing Italy with an
instructor who has lived in Rome and whose family comes from small Tuscan towns near Florence.
Mrs. Winner’s articles and statements have appeared in International Artist Magazine, Artist Magazine,
American Artist, The Art of the Portrait, Signature, The Folio, as well as regional publications and
periodicals. She has authored four workbooks; her new book, Painting Classic Portraits: Great Faces
Step by Step, is published by F&W Media, North Light Books, and will be available in February, 2013.
Recently on the easel: B. Grant Yarber, CEO and President of Capital Bank, North Carolina; Mr. and
Mrs. C.A. Roberson, installed in the lobby of Roberson Hall, Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs,
Georgia; Dr. James L. Oblinger, Chancellor (retired) of North Carolina State University; and a
re-creation of a 1754 portrait of William Pitt, First Earl of Chatham and Prime Minister of England, lost
in the Chatham County Courthouse in Pittsboro, North Carolina.
ENTRY FEE: Each entry must be accompanied by a signed official entry form and a check or money
order made payable to Cape Fear Studios in the amount of $35 for non-Cape Fear Studios members,
$30 for members for up to two images. Limit of two images per artist. Entry fee is nonrefundable and
is due by May 15th, 2012. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
DIGITAL ENTRIES: Digital images are required. Submit up to two JPEG images on one CD. CD
should be labeled with artist’s name and titles. Format images with a resolution of 300 dpi and no more
than 1500 pixels in the longest dimension. Label the image file with the title or a portion of the title and
the artist’s last name (for example daylilysmith.jpg). CD’s will not be returned.
ACCEPTED ENTRIES: Artists will be notified by email or mail no later than May 28th, 2012.
Include a SASE for notification by mail as well as an email address. Accepted works that are being
shipped must arrive no sooner than June 11th and no later than June 18th 2012 by 5 p.m. at Cape
Fear Studios. Accepted works that are being hand delivered to Cape Fear Studios must arrive no
later than 5 p.m. at Cape Fear Studios on June 18th, 2012. (Cape Fear Studios is open between 11
a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday; and closed on Sundays.
Address: 148 Maxwell Street, Fayetteville, North Carolina.) Exhibition label must be attached to the
back of the work. The artist is responsible for insurance and the cost of shipping to/from Cape Fear
Studios. Shipping guidelines and additional information will be sent with notification of acceptance.
Shipped entries must include a pre-paid return label as well as a handling fee of $30 for one
accepted entry or $50 for two accepted entries. Accepted works that are not shipped or received by
CFS will result in the artist being banned from future exhibits.
SALES: All works must be for sale. In the event a work is sold, Cape Fear Studios will retain a 30%
commission of the sale price with the exception of purchase awards. State sales tax is applicable to all
sales. No work may be withdrawn early from the show. Payment from sales will be made to the artist
within 30 days after the close of the exhibit. Price must remain the same as listed on the entry form.
DISCLAIMER AGREEMENT: Work is submitted at the risk of the artist. While all possible care will
be taken, Cape Fear Studios, its members or representatives, will not assume responsibility for any loss
or damage incurred before, during, or after the exhibit. Cape Fear Studios reserves the right to refuse
any work that does not comply with all specifications or differs greatly from submitted digital
images. Your signed entry form signifies your agreement with the terms and conditions stated herein,
including granting permission to Cape Fear Studios to reproduce accepted paintings for advertising the
National 2012 Exhibition.
