PROSPECTUS NOW AVAILABLE FOR THE NEW JERSEY STATE HISTORY
FAIR’S ART EXHIBIT AT PRALLSVILLE MILLS, STOCKTON, NJ

The Delaware River Mill Society, in partnership with the 8TH Annual Spirit of the Jerseys
State History Fair, will be sponsoring an art exhibit featuring New Jersey’s historic
heritage at Prallsville Mills, Stockton, NJ from April 14 – 28th. This show will be juried
by three respected representatives from the field of art, culture and historic preservation. The
jurors will be: Janet Hunt, proprietor of the Coryell Gallery in Lambertville and daughter of
noted artist Anne Steele Marsh. Ms. Hunt has served as a commissioner on the Hunterdon
County Cultural and Heritage Commission since 1985; Dan Saunders, Administrator, New
Jersey State Historic Preservation Office, previously serving as Principal Historic Preservation
Specialist for more than 20 years; and Mel Leipzig, Professor and renowned, award-winning
New Jersey artist for more than 35 years.

Awards will be given in the following categories:
  1. Best of Show
  2. Overall 2nd
  3. Overall 3rd
  4. Best State-Owned Historic Properties
  5. Best Non-State Owned Historic Property (includes all municipal, county and federal
      owned sites, as well as properties managed by groups and organizations)
  6. Best Historic Landscape
  7. Best Architectural Detail
  8. Best Historic Artifact
  9. Best Interpretive Use (subjects may depict programming, reenactors, encampments,
      ETC)
  10. Best Historic Monument/Sculpture
  11. Best Use of Materials

   12. Most Innovative

The twelve recognized works will be exhibited at the Spirit of the Jersey State History
Fair on Saturday, May 12, 2012, 11am - 5pm, Washington Crossing State Park,
Titusville, NJ.

ENTRY RECEIVING DAYS: SATURDAY, APRIL 7 & MONDAY, APRIL 9 2012
                      Noon to 5 PM (on both Saturday and Monday) at the
                      Prallsville Mill Saw Mill Gallery located at 33 Risler Street

JURIED SHOW, OPEN TO ALL MEDIA, TWELVE CATEGORIES OF AWARDS

ALL ENTRIES MUST FEATURE A New Jersey HISTORIC SITE OR LANDSCAPE
(example: Historic House or Structure, Lighthouse, Battlefield, Village, etc.) Artistic
subjects should feature those historic resources that provide public access. Historic sites
administered by non-profit organizations or municipal, county, state and federal
governments are eligible. Subjects can be located within a state park or along one of our
federally recognized scenic byways.

CROSSING STATE PARK IN TITUSVILLE, NJ ON SATURDAY, MAY 12, 2012

NJ STATE HISTORY FAIR FACTS:
The Fair started as a celebratory event marking the 100th anniversary of New Jersey's state
owned historic sites. Its purpose is to cultivate the public's awareness and appreciation of NJ's
historic resources by providing visitors with the opportunity to experience history in a fun and
engaging manner. 2012 marks the 8th year of the fair. Annual attendance at the Fair has
averaged 5,000 visitors. Last year over 130 exhibitors participated in the event. Previous
years have seen this figure as high as 160. Each year the Fair attracts exhibitors from nearly
every New Jersey County and is an award-winning event, receiving an Award of Recognition

from the New Jersey Historical Commission in 2008. The State History Fair a fun-filled
adventure into New Jersey's past that is appropriate for all ages.

ABOUT MEL LEIPZIG:
Mel Leipzig studied at the Cooper Union and received his MFA from Yale University in 1958
and a MFA from Pratt Institute in 1972. He has received numerous awards, including a
Fulbright Traveling Fellowship in 1958, the Louis Comfort Tiffany Award in 1959, a Merit
Award for Associated Artists of New Jersey in 1989, and several fellowship awards from the
New Jersey State Council on the Arts. Leipzig was also the recipient of one of the last-ever
individual artist grants awarded by the National Endowment for the Arts, in 1995. He moved
from New York to New Jersey in the 1960s to teach at Mercer County Community College,
where he has taught art history and painting for the past 36 years. Leipzig was also one of the
co-founders of TAWA (Trenton Artists’ Workshop Association).

Leipzig was a featured artist in the 1999 New Jersey Fine Arts Annual exhibit at the New
Jersey State Museum. He has also been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions,
including the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. and Gallery Henoch in NYC,
where he is represented. His works are in numerous permanent collections including the New
Jersey State Museum, The Cooper-Hewitt Museum for the Decorative Arts in NYC, Yale Art
Gallery in New Haven, CT, and The White House Collection in Washington, D.C. Leipzig has
also completed many works for private collections and commissions.
