Guidance Notes for Section 1 – Employee/Course/Loan details
Please note that the minimum amount that can be applied for each year is £250 and the maximum
amount each year is £2000.

The full policy regarding Interest Free Loans for Training can be found on the Learning Institute
website

1 To qualify you must have 2 year’s continuous service with the College. In addition, temporary or
fixed-term staff must have at least 12 months of their contract left to run at the time of their
application.

2 Staff who do not qualify as set out in (1) above may receive a loan provided that their
department agrees in writing to repay the loan from its own funds if the employee defaults. If the
employee does default, the whole balance will be requested from the department while HR
pursues the individual for payment. Any amount subsequently recovered from the employee will be
credited to the department.

3 Please note that it can take up to two weeks for a cheque to be drawn. Any queries about the
scheme or progress of an application should be addressed to your Payroll Officer.

4 Please ensure that you read and understand the ‘Agreement’ text in section 1 of the application
form before signing the application.

Guidance Notes for Section 2 – HOD Recommendation
5 When recommending this application for approval you are agreeing that;

   -   The programme of study is appropriate to the existing and future needs of this staff member
   -   The programme of study is relevant to the needs of the department/institute/school and to
       the mission of the College
   -   The applicant has been employed by the College for at least 2 years
   -   Should the employee default the department agrees to the conditions set out in (2) above.
   -   You will provide a budget code that the defaulted amount can be taken from

6 In some cases the department will have agreed to contribute towards the course fee, In this case
the cheque will still be drawn up by Payroll & Pensions. In section 2 you need to provide the amount
and budget code for the portion offered by the department.
