●Fire Activity:
Yesterday and last night brought much cooler temperatures and some moisture to the fire areas.
Fire activity was moderated and firefighters made good headway in their work to create and
improve defensible space around threatened structures. The forecast for today is for clear and
warmer weather. Winds should be coming out of the north and northeast and will serve to dry
out the fuels, increasing fire activity. Pigeon: There are still a fair number of trees and other
debris falling along the east fire line from Helena to Hobo Gulch. One light truck was heavily
damaged by a green tree that fell onto it while parked on Hobo Gulch Road. No one was injured.
Progress on the Hobo Gulch segment of fire line was good. It is a primary line of defense for the
Canyon Creek and Junction City communities.
Bake Oven: Fire activity was also moderated by cold and moisture. Firefighters reported some
snow falling at the highest elevations. Air tankers were able to drop fire retardant across the
       north edge.

●Terrain: Steep and rocky canyons with extremely difficult terrain to access.
●Resources: Assigned to this incident:
Total Personnel: 1,791 Persons (as of 9/15 at 6PM)
                       38 Hand Crews 6 Helicopters 2 Dozers
110 Engines 17 Water Tenders 0 injuries yesterday

Today’s Actions: Air tankers and helicopters will work on both fires.
On the Pigeon Fire, firefighters will be moved to strategic locations as the wind direction
changes and as they complete structure protection around homes in the Powerhouse and Canyon
Creek areas. Firefighters will secure the fire line north of Helena. They will continue prepping
around structures in the Hwy 299 corridor between Helena and Big French. The wrapping of
structures and application of gel will take place where it is effective. On the Bake Oven Fire,
several crews and overhead will be moved to a second fire camp located in Petersburg. There,
they will be closer to their assignment on the north fire line and the northeast corner of the Bake
Oven Fire. A second fire management team will be positioned in Petersburg to manage the
        forces based there.

● Public Safety:
Mandatory evacuation remains in effect for the following areas: Hobo Gulch south to Helena; all
residences north of Hwy 299 from Helena to Rifle Range Road in Junction City. Residents south of Hwy
299 have been placed under a 48-hour evacuation advisory by the Sheriff’s Office. They have been
asked to be prepared for possible evacuation. An evacuation center has been activated in Lewiston.
Three people are staying in the shelter provided by the Red Cross. The primary telephone number for the
Lewiston evacuation center is 530-778-3869. The roads into Hobo Gulch and Canyon Creek areas are
controlled. Certain areas within the both Shasta-Trinity and Klamath Forests have been closed due to the
fire.
