      SALARY RANGE: $38,594 - $61,427 (annually) Grade 15
                    $18.45 - $29.37 (hourly)

      DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: The primary purpose of this position is to provide geological
      and technical support to the Acid Mine Drainage Section (AMDS) of the Abandoned Mine
      Lands Division (AMLD), a division of the Mining Program within the Land Management
      Administration. This position provides daily assistance for the carrying out of environmental
      and geological studies and investigations in the support of EPA and other federal funded
      grants obtained by the AMLD for watershed assessments and acid mine drainage treatment
      activities in the coal region of western Maryland. This position provides essential geological
      support for water remediation and assessment grants by carrying out technical field activities
      for watershed assessment activities; e.g. gathers and processes GPS data, collects water
      sample and flow measurements. This position also prepares GIS mapping, manages GIS
      project files, compiles water quality and quantity data which is used for the design of AMD
      remediation and watershed assessment efforts in the coal region of western Maryland.
      MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

      Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
      in Geology, Environmental Geology or a related earth science.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Employees in this classification may be
assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties
will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE CLASSIFICATION: (1) Employees in this classification may be
required to walk over rough or unstable terrain or over long distances while wearing personal
protection equipment such as respiratory protection equipment. (2) Employees in this classification
may be subject to ongoing medical testing in accordance with the U.S. Occupational Safety and
Health Administration Regulations (Standards - 29 CFR) 1910.120 Hazardous Waste Operation and
Emergency Response. (3) Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in on a twenty-four
hour basis and, therefore, will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number
where they can be reached or carry an electronic pager.
