Wilson Akpan Dr. Wilson Akpan, a Ford Foundation scholar, heads the Department of Sociology at the University of Fort Hare, South Africa, where he is the initiator and leader of the African Resources and Comparative Sustainability Research project. He is also a member of the renewable energy research niche area at Fort Hare. He is the convener of the Environment and Natural Resources Working Group of the South African Sociological Association (SASA). Dr. Akpan has published widely on his core areas of research, namely: corporate social responsibility in the petroleum industry, environmental justice, and community conflict associated with natural resource exploitation in Africa. In the last few years, he has also been involved in research projects on popular culture as well as equity and access in higher education. He writes a column in IT & Telecom Digest, a monthly magazine.
