The Flu Virus Has Arrived in Madison County

If you haven’t had your vaccine yet, it’s not too late!

Wampsville– The flu is here. Last week 15 cases of flu were confirmed in Madison County,
compared to two confirmed cases the previous week. If you and your family have not been
vaccinated against the flu this season – now is the time to get vaccinated.

Surveillance systems indicate that the number of flu cases is now increasing throughout
Central New York. There is plenty of vaccine available and it’s not too late to get vaccinated
and reduce your risk of getting sick!

“Getting vaccinated is the single best thing you can do to protect yourself or your loved ones
from getting very ill,” said Eric Faisst, Director of Madison County Health Department. “Don’t
take the chance of getting sick– get the flu vaccine today at a Health Department Flu Clinic or
from your healthcare provider.”

Flu symptoms include a fever, body aches, sore throat and/or dry cough – NOT a stomach
ache or vomiting. Flu should not be confused with the virus that causes the common cold. The
flu is caused by a completely different virus.

Besides keeping people safe from days or weeks of illness, the vaccine can prevent
unnecessary school absences, doctor visits and hospitalizations.

“If you do get the flu, cover your cough and stay home to reduce the spread of disease to
others,” said Eric Faisst.
