07. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:


   a) I had joined M/s Hindustan Copper Limited as a Graduate Engineer Trainee in
      1981 & worked in various capacities in the Smelting Unit, a Hot Metal
      Handling Continuous Process Plant . Presently serving as the Head Of
      Electrical Wing as Chief Manager( Elect) I have always strived very had for
      implementing the     techniques of planning & execution of Predictive &
      Preventive Maintenance which has been instrumental in bringing the
      availability of equipment to well over 90 %.        Some of the important
      equipment in the Smelter Plant have been listed below :

    A.C. / D.C. E.O.T. Cranes of various capacities.

    Transformers

    Low & High Tension MCCs / PCCs & other associated switchgear.

    Electrostatic Precipitators ( with microprocessor based controlling units ) of
     the capacities of 45,000 & 51,000 NM3 / Hr. of gas volumes.

    Thyristor Based Drives.

    Variable Frequency Drives ( Allen Bradley & Siemens Make)

    Rotating Furnace Drives.

    Microprocessor based Hot Metal Casting & Weighing System.

    P.L.C. based material handling system


b) Worked in close association with foreign experts and consultants in various
   new projects. I have been involved in the detailed engineering, designing, job
   scheduling, erection , commissioning & on the spot modifications. Some of
   the important projects have been listed below :


        De- bottlenecking project for Electrostatic Precipitators which has
         resulted in overall improvement in the efficiency of the E.S.P.   &
         percentage increase in through put of the Sulphurdioxide gas to our
         Sulphuric Acid Plant. ( M/s Lodge Cottrel , U.K.)

        De- bottlenecking project for Pierce Smith Copper Converters & Fire
         Refining Furnaces for Copper (M/s Bipromet Metals , Poland )

        Microprocessor based Hot Metal Casting & Weighing System ( M/s
         Outokumpu , Finland )

        1400 KW / 11 KV Electric-blowers for Pierce Smith Copper Converters(
         M/s G.E.C. Alsthom , France ). Visited France in connection with Testing ,
         Erection & Commissioning of these blowers.


c) Design and implementation of day to day modifications / improvements in
   the existing system.

d) Spares planning & procurement action.

e) Identification and development of vendors in respect of Import Substitution
   of various imported equipment.

f)   Phasing out of obsolete Circuit Breakers.

g) I have a fair working knowledge of various instruments & the final control
   elements like Control Valves , P.I.D. Controllers , Recorders , Analyzers ,
   Flow Transmitters, Ratio Controllers etc.

     h) I have always been exploring the possibilities of Energy Conservation &
        Energy Efficiency . Some of the salient actions taken in this direction have
        been listed below ;


           Replacement of partially      loaded   motors   with    those   of   smaller/
            appropriate ratings.

           Phasing out of old/less efficient electrical motors with new generation
            high efficiency motors.

           Installation of Sub- Meters in selected sections for better monitoring &
            control of power.

           Installation of Variable Frequency Drives for varying loads applications.

           Installation of online monitoring of electrical power

           Installation of 11 KV/1400 KW Soft Starters

           De-centralizing the Air Compressor Set Up

           Recovery of heat from the Flue Gasses of Fire Refining Furnaces.

           Installation of Ratio Controllers for optimizing the consumption of Heavy
            Furnace Oil & Liquid Oxygen in the Flash Smelting operations.

           Fuel switchover ( from LDO to HFO)

           Identification & use of excess steam for the operation of Steam Pump
            thus replacing the electric motor.


i)   Application of SIX SIGMA concepts & methodologies for Breakthrough
     Improvement in Business Process. Currently working on a Black Belt project for
     overall savings in Energy Consumption ( Viz. Electricity , Fuel Oil etc.) in the
     Smelter Plant with an estimated potential of about Rs. 5 to 8 Crores / Annum.


J) I am the Energy Manager of the entire complex. Aiming to reduce the energy bills
   by Rs. 600 Lacs annually.
