For kids of all ages, there’s a stunning new 3D animated adaptation of Kipling’s classic, the “Jungle Book,” and the adventure-comedy series “Marsupilami,” featuring the popular comic-book hero. For toddlers, we’ve got top-notch animated series like “Fun With Claude” and “Igam Ogam.” On the live-action front, don’t miss “Stella and the Star of the Orient,” a handsomely filmed, evocative time-travel adventure. Finally, there’s a special treat for all fans of “H 2 O – Just Add Water:” the third season! Millions of fans in over 120 countries are eagerly awaiting the new mermaids-with-superpowers adventures. The success of “H 2 O” and its follow-up series “The Elephant Princess” is hardly surprising, seeing that they’re both the brainchild of Jonathan M. Shiff, Australia’s producer of blockbuster children’s and youth series. And that we’ve been co-producing audience favorites with Shiff for several years now – “Wicked Science” and “Scooter” are some of our first joint projects – should also come as no surprise: we’re practically pioneers in children’s television! In recent years, we’ve been stepping up our production output in animated entertainment. Produced with top-of-the-line animation specialists, these timeless programs keep adding new contours and highlights to our valuable library. With attractive all-media offers and B2C platforms, our children’s portfolio – live action as well as animation – boasts the ideal prerequisites for the expansion of our service offerings in the digital world. Mowgli, Baloo, Bagheera, Shere Khan … magical names, memorized by children all over the world ever since Rudyard Kipling’s immortal classic “The Jungle Book” came out over a century ago. The adventures of the boy raised by wolves in the Indian jungle leap to life for the first time ever in a 3D HD animated series for children aged 6 to 9. The jungle itself now becomes a vibrant character, bursting with color and life. And playing upon its every register with masterful command is our impetuous, irrepressible hero Mowgli!
M
owgli is still a boy, and his escapades reflect his fun-loving, daredevil spirit. How could a human raised by wolves not be adventurous! Especially when his best friends are a wise bear named Baloo, the panther Bagheera, and the python Kaa! Blessed with a quick wit, a sharp instinct and an optimistic outlook on life, Mowgli learns to overcome adversity and survive in the jungle. This is particularly challenging with a tenacious enemy like Shere Khan, a Royal Bengal tiger. Mowgli also has to defend himself against a sneaky jackal and the Bandar-Log, or monkey people, who live in the forest treetops and pay no heed to the laws of the jungle. Mowgli’s adventures unfold not only in the lush tropical forest, but also amidst the ruins of splendid Indian royal forts, temples, waterfalls and the Waingunga River. As the series progresses, other characters from Kipling’s stories are introduced to maintain a constant
source of storytelling: the wolf Akela and Mowgli’s wolf “parents,” several wild and exotic animals, and even human beings! This first major animated retelling of “The Jungle Book” since the 1967 Disney production is much more faithful to Kipling’s beloved stories and characters than previous adaptations – hardly surprising considering that it’s produced in India, the “home” of “The Jungle Book!” Hyderabad-based DQ Entertainment, a global leader in high-quality animated series and games, joins forces with coproducers ZDF (the series’ editorial leader), ZDF Enterprises and TF1, who are cooperating with various partners including NBC Universal. The result is a unique fusion of DQ Entertainment’s cutting-edge technology and artistry with the coproduction partners’ decades-long experience in children’s programs. Stories bursting with action and color, sparkling with wit and comedy – stories that stimulate the minds

of the program’s target viewers while capturing the hearts of their parents. The series has the best chances of becoming that most coveted and elusive of properties: a literature-based children’s series that rigorously respects its source yet offers broadcasters and merchandisers countless opportunities for exploitation. Also being released in 2010 together with the first season of the TV series (52 x 11’) is a 60-minute TV special. “The Jungle Book” – tales from an exotic world that will enchant children and their families for years to come! ‹‹ bo

The third season sees the arrival of a new mermaid, Bella, who is played by popular young Australian actress Indiana Evans (known from the hit series “Home and Away”). The girls’ lives are also given a mighty shake when a new boy turns up at school, Will (Luke Mitchell), who’s got freakish free-diving skills, in addition to great

As to the stars of “H 2O,” they’re busy acquiring fi lm experience, like Cariba Heine, who’ll soon be seen in the Steven Spielberg production “The Pacific.” Ready to tackle new projects in the future – including an “H 2O” feature film and new seasons of Shiff’s latest mega hit “The Elephant Princess” – Shiff and ZDF Enterprises have extended their partnership agreement for another six years. New Eyes on a New World
›› “fun with claude” (52 x 10’) special roll-out package for all platforms
Based on the books by awardwinning illustrator David Wojtowycz, “Fun with Claude” introduces children to an enchanting and colorful world, and to a cute, cuddly and spirited little polar bear who, like many children, moves to a new home.
C
laude has moved with his Mum, Dad and Gran from his icy Arctic home in Little Snowington to a place that is far, far away and quite the opposite – the sunny and bustling town of Bearhampton, on the other side of the world. In his new home Claude is intrigued and often bemused by everyday things. Rain fascinates him, wheels mesmerise him and all the gadgets of modern life amaze him. There are so many new things to learn about: creatures and plants he has never seen before, strange and mysterious places he just can’t wait to visit, even the simplest of things like the tickliness of the green grass is exciting.
“Fun with Claude” celebrates differences and encourages our young audience to take a closer look at the things around them, introducing the knowledge and skills, understanding and emotions that children need to make the most of everyday life. In order to increase the brand awareness and further support the educational values of “Fun with Claude”, ZDF Enterprises now offers a microsite that invites young viewers to go on an interactive voyage of learning and discovery with Claude. They can meet Claude’s family and friends, join him in exploring Bearhampton, his new home, and playfully discover Claude’s world while solving the little problems of everyday life with him. Various games keep children amused while stimulating their cognitive processes, and encouraging their creativity and their eagerness to make discoveries.

Their Job Is to Protect – Both the Good and the Bad
›› “the protectors” (10 x 60’) spe special roll-out package for all platforms
When the media train their cameras on some head of state or other dignitary, all eyes are on the man or woman at the center. But close by, their eyes darting into the crowd of reporters and onlookers, are the bodyguards who ensure that their client stays alive – whether it’s a royal princess or a rogue potentate. In Copenhagen, this is the job of Rasmus, Jonas and Jasmina, three friends and colleagues in the city’s Personal Protection Unit – the Protectors.
T
heir work demands extreme concentration, lightning-fast reactions and the ability to make split-second decisions – always the right ones! Even before they’ve completed their training, Rasmus, Jonas and Jasmina are sent on their fi rst mission: to protect the Minister of Defense from a grieving, and highly dangerous, ex-Yugoslavian military man who blames the government for his son’s death in Baghdad. Jasmina’s own Middle-Eastern origins will prove to be a handicap in another case involving an extremist group pressuring the Prime Minister to change the immigration policy – and recruiting sympathizers within the ranks of the police…
Rasmus, Jonas and Jasmina are the heroes, a tight-knit community of friends who live and work together. A strapping, self-confident man, Rasmus is the sweet country boy who still believes in the fundamental decency of mankind. Jonas lives in the moment and focuses on the now; he’s a womanizer whose marriage with an Israeli is on the rocks and whose affairs are a security hazard. Jasmina, Egyptian-born but Danish-raised, is a go-getter, a synthesis of self-control and abandon, an intellectual whose Arabic background is both a bane and a blessing for her work. Produced by DR-TV, “The Protectors” is the brainchild of Mai Brostrøm and Peter Thorsboe, the creators of the International Emmy-Award winning series “The Eagle.” The series focuses on the lives and missions of the three specialists and their superiors. But it also portrays the people they protect and those they protect them from. Another crisp, clear police series with unmistakable Scandinavian flair. A nail-biting, in-yourface approach to the perils of our violent times! ‹‹ nm

New Telenovela Sparkles with Love, Heartbreak and Crystal Jewelry
›› “alisa – follow your heart” (240 x 42’) special roll-out package for all platforms
Alisa Lenz and luck? Her boyfriend cheats on her, then leaves her with a mountain of debts... She ruins her job application by angering the company’s CEO... She loses the cut-glass pendant that was the only keepsake from her biological parents – and that was her good-luck charm… Decidedly, luck does not seem to smile on Alisa. But if you think this is enough to keep her from pursuing her goal of happiness and fulfillment, you don’t know Alisa!
I
ncurably optimistic and cheery, Alisa, 27, leaves her faithless boyfriend in Berlin and heads back to the small town she grew up in with her adoptive parents. A trained optician, she hopes to get a job at the Castellhoff Optical Works. On the way, she accidentally meets a dashing young man, Christian, who fully, totally, and immediately wins her heart. As she ponders whether she will ever see him again, she runs into a mean-spirited man scolding a little girl, and gives him a piece of her mind.
Alisa pursues her goals with passion and determination, and finds loving support and encouragement in her down-to-earth family as well as in her new friend Mona. The fun-loving, temperamental Italian café owner has a razor-sharp understanding of human relations, but somehow just doesn’t see that the man of her life is right in front of her… Among the other twists and turns linking the various protagonists are a stroke of fate that befalls Ellen; the true identity and past ordeal of Ludwig Castellhoff’s amnesia-stricken wife Liliana; the remarkable transformation of Oskar’s beauty-queen wife into a strong, selfpossessed woman; and the bitter rivalry between Christian and his best friend Paul for the heart of Alisa… Produced by Grundy UFA for ZDF, “Alisa” is a light and spirited new telenovela which, in the words of ZDF story editor Heike Hempel, will “move, entertain, and be fun to watch - which works because viewers can identify with the female lead. This keeps them glued to the edge of their seat.” Welcome to the palpitating romance of Alisa and Christian, and to a world of shocking secrets and diabolical intrigues! ‹‹ nm
It’s her “peace” of mind that’s shattered, however, when she learns that the nasty man is Oskar Castellhoff, one of the two CEO s of the Castellhoff Works, and that Christian is the other CEO. Worse yet, Christian is engaged to tough-as-nails lawyer Ellen, who’s having an affair with the married Oskar. With Oskar, Alisa has won a foe for life; with Christian, she embarks on a turbulent adventure of romance, love and heartache, and on a quest to uncover the secret of her crystal pendant – and of her family.
From left to right: Christian Castellhoff (Jan Hartmann) casts his spell on Alisa Lenz (Theresa Scholze). Ellen Burg (Nadine Warmuth) plots a new intrigue. Alisa and the pendant that is the key to her past.

›› “stuttgart homicide” (20 x 45’) special roll-out package for all platforms
A lively city, a thriving metropolis, Mediterranean flair in southern Germany – Stuttgart wears a smiling face. But it’s a place where money whispers instead of talks, and where passions are kept buttoned up and best hidden from view. It’s a town of social, economic and cultural contrasts that sometimes can’t be reconciled without violence. It’s a town that needs a special crime squad – Stuttgart Homicide.
T
he team would be unthinkable without Chief Inspector Martina Seiffert, an experienced and uncompromising investigator. Her fl inty colleague Jo likes to pass himself off as the tough, unyielding nonconformist, but way down deep he’s as warm and soft as a Swabian spaetzle. Inspector Anna Badosi is a criminologist who’s an ace in profi ling. Completing the team is young Rico Sander, an IT specialist with a borderline-legal way of getting the data he needs. They all look up to Criminal Director Michael Kaiser, the head of homicide at Stuttgart’s police headquarters, an eloquent and efficient boss who runs his team like a family.

And like in any family, there are misunderstandings, power struggles, rivalries, as well as a strong sense of togetherness and mutual respect. Stuttgart Homicide knows its turf inside out, and glides smoothly from one level of society to another: from illegal football betting clubs to mafia-style extortionists, from greedy hotelquality-testers to diamond-stealing fi remen, and from fanatical conservative Christians to bedridden mothers who may or may not have a fortune to bequeath to their favorite son or care-giver… Produced by Bavaria Fernsehproduktion GmbH for ZDF, “Stuttgart Homicide” joins the ranks of some of television’s most solid and longest-running crime fare, including “Cologne P.D.”, “Leipzig Homicide” and “SOKO 5113,” all available from ZDF Enterprises. ‹‹ nm

A Family Saga Cast in Steel
›› “krupp – a family between war and peace” (3 x 90’ / 2 x 90’)
Few families have been so intimately connected with the destiny of their nation as Germany’s Krupp family. Arms manufacturers since the early 17th century, builders of Germany’s first major steelworks, the Krupps set up the largest munitions factory in the world and became known as the “armorers of the German Reich.” They served the Kaiser. They served Hitler. And then they served the Allies. No government could do without this dynasty built of steel, arms and blood.
T
his high-gloss event miniseries relates the story of the Krupps in the 20th century, the period of their greatest power – and of their downfall. Centered on two of the leading figures in the Krupp dynasty, Bertha and her son Alfried, it paints a sweeping panorama of major historical events. But above all, it is the moving story of a family whose children were raised to be first and foremost Krupps before anything else. In Bertha we find a matriarch who clung to the past and to the family’s privileged position. And in Alfried, we fi nd a tormented administrator who collaborated with evil and realized that the winds of change had to come... Produced by MOOVIE – the art of entertainment for ZDF, “Krupp – A Family Between War and Peace” is directed by Carlo Rola. Iris Berben, one of Germany’s leading actresses, portrays Bertha Krupp; Benjamin Sadler (Side Effects) her son Alfried. Exceptional production values allied with historical authenticity keynote this drama of a family that fought for power, strove for wealth, achieved renown – and yet never found peace. ‹‹ nm
Scenes from a family whose wealth was built on war, and whose power was more important than any family ties.
KRUPP – MYTH AND TRUTH (1 x 45’)
In this documentary companion to the three-part miniseries, Sebastian Dehnhardt and Manfred Oldenburg peel away the myths to reveal the naked truth about this powerful family. Interviews with members of the Krupp family, as well as previously unknown facts and spectacular private fi lms, help us understand who the Krupps really were and what price they paid for their legendary success. iane Bergmann, the daughter of Albert Targensee, has long kept her identity a secret. How do the kidnappers know about her connection to the wealthy industrialist? Inspector Danner has trouble gaining Liane’s confidence, especially since she puts more faith in her own investigative powers than in the police’s. And when she finally does agree to meet her father, she discovers that her husband has been literally “selling” family secrets to him. Liane starts to suspect that her own husband is cooperating with the kidnappers …
and has to resist being engulfed by a dark and deadly secret that now emerges in full force to destroy the venerable façade of the Targensee family. Showdown in Germania’s Ancient Forests
›› “the battle against rome” (2 x 52’ hd)
Why did Roman-educated Arminius betray the Romans?
It is the worst defeat ever suffered by the Roman Empire: three legions – 30,000 men, 10 percent of the Roman Army’s fighting force – cut down in the forests of Germania. Informed of the news, Emperor Augustus roars “Give me back my legions!” A man the Romans had trained and trusted has betrayed and defeated them: Arminius, son of a Cheruscan tribe’s leader.

Produced by Uwe Kersken and his Gruppe 5 Filmproduktion, directed by Christian Twente (both renowned for their prestigious China documentaries distributed by ZDF Enterprises), this program brings to life one of the most devastating battles of ancient times: the Battle of Varus, also known as the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, which played a decisive role in shaping modern-day Europe.
what makes the Romans strong – and knows how to exploit their weaknesses. As the leader and mastermind of the attack, he gathers together a massive army of rebel soldiers who annihilate the Romans in the course of three days. The Roman commander Varus commits suicide and Arminius is hailed as the new king of the Teutons. This dialogue-driven, fact-based drama draws on the most recent historical evidence and incorporates new findings about the nature of Roman military power and Roman rule. The film explores how the Romans enforced their rule through the Pax Romana by imposing taxes, building new settlements, absorbing “Barbarian” tribes into their service and instilling within them the Roman way of life. Set in Rome, the Balkans and the fledgling Roman province of Germania, the ground-breaking fi lm tells the epic story of the battle through the eyes of one of
It is the year 9 A.D., exactly 2,000 years ago. Unknown to the Romans, they are under observation: by a cunning enemy, out for revenge: Arminius. How did he succeed? And, finally, where exactly is the battlefield of Varus’ last stand? ‹‹ rr

Eight Years in Captivity
›› “natasch kampusch” (1 x 43’ / 1 x 52’ hd)
On 23 August 2006, an unassuming 18-year-old Austrian named Natascha Kampusch made headlines around the world. Missing for eight years, given up for dead by many, the young woman had just escaped from captivity after having spent part of her childhood and her entire adolescence locked away in her kidnapper’s house. And when she spoke, the world listened ...
A
uthor Peter Reichard conducted seven twohour interviews with the former kidnapping victim for this fi rst in-depth documentary. In these conversations, Natascha Kampusch emerges as an extraordinarily articulate and intelligent young woman. From the day of her kidnapping in 1998 to the present, she relates an ordeal that has yet to be put to rest. For even today, new evidence of mistakes by the Austrian authorities and demeaning speculations about her years in captivity continue to plague the young woman. Produced by Securitel for NDR , Five TV and ZDF Enterprises, the program boasts exclusive access to the house where Kampusch was imprisoned, as well as interviews with people close to her. “Spending time with Natascha Kampusch is a remarkable, and
sometimes confusing, experience,” says author Peter Reichard. “She constantly seems to slip into the skin of other people… She has to deal simultaneously with the consequences of eight years of incarceration and isolation, while learning to integrate into a society that offers a multitude of confusing options.” In addition to the interviews, the program examines the blunders made by the police, the accusations leveled at Kampusch’s mother, and the motives harbored by the kidnapper. The abduction itself is filmed in a dramatic re-enactment. The focus, however, always remains on Natascha Kampusch, the plucky young woman who survived a harrowing ordeal and has emerged as a strong, self-assured person and committed member of society. ‹‹ rr

Between Madness and Brilliance
›› “mission x – season four” (4 x 45’ hd)
Sometimes it’s a vision. Other times a “what if.” It is the impulse that propels men and women to devote themselves with almost maniacal singlemindedness to realizing an idea that has taken hold of them. They are inventors. Driven, possessed people who brave massive resistance and murderous envy. Geniuses – or madmen?
N
ow in its fourth season, “Mission X” continues to explore the lives of the great inventors and scientists who made groundbreaking contributions to humanity.
Byron Benson played a crucial role in the oil boom of the 19th century by building a 500-km-long pipeline from Pennsylvania to the New York harbor. James Watt knew that his steam engine would become invaluable for transportation and industry, and had to prevent spies from stealing his ideas. He won – and triggered the Industrial Revolution. The tragic fate of Joseph Ressel, the inventor of the marine propeller, is a tale of perseverance and bitter disappointment: the story of an idea that was stolen by unscrupulous rivals and torpedoed by mighty opponents. Alexander Graham Bell also fought for his claim to the title of the inventor of the telephone. He was virtually alone against the powerful Western Union inventor Elisha Gray in developing the most revolutionary means of communication of our age. An achievement that has been called into question ever since Bell submitted his patent application. Produced by Engstfeld Film GmbH for ZDF and ZDF Enterprises GmbH, “Mission X” intertwines absorbing reenactments of the invention’s key moments with documentary footage, scenes shot on original locations, instructive CGI sequences and examples of how the seminal idea has evolved to this day. “Mission X” – an adventure of discovery with the suspense of a thriller! ‹‹ rr

Oxenford’s security boss Antonia “Toni” Gallo sets out to stop them. Braving the oncoming blizzard, she makes her way to the Oxenford family home, where she, the Oxenford family and the cold-blooded thieves are trapped as the blizzard descends upon them … With over 100 million copies of his books sold, Ken Follett is unquestionably one of the most widely read authors of thrillers and historical novels in the world today. Hope – The True Story of an Exceptional Woman
›› “hope” (2 x 90’)

END OF 2009
B
In the early 20th century, the physician Dr. Hope Adams set a courageous example that still inspires women today. A pioneer in a field dominated by men, she overcame repeated obstacles to realize her dream. And she was successful: as the first woman to obtain a medical degree in Germany and the first female doctor in Munich, as founder of a bilingual kindergarten and promoter of a hospital reform. All of this against the virulent opposition of her male colleagues and of society in general.
orn in England in 1855, Hope Bridget Adams grows up as a determined and resilient young woman who knows what she wants. Rejecting the traditional career options open to women at that time, Hope chooses medicine and ultimately obtains the authorization to practice in Germany. The obstacles she must overcome are many and forbidding, yet whether it’s the opposition of her male colleagues, the break-up of her marriage or her contracting tuberculosis, she tackles them all with unflagging perseverance.
After her divorce, Hope practices in Munich, supports legal abortions, and fights to realize her dream of a modern birthing center. And despite constant, violent opposition, she continues to struggle for her ideals and for equality – until her tuberculosis returns … Produced by Hofmann & Voges, the two-part TV movie “Hope” stars Heike Makatsch (Hilde, Love Actually) as the extraordinarily spirited, positive woman who almost single-handedly revolutionized the status of women doctors in the early 20th century, and not only in Germany. ‹‹ ta

About 20 to 25 percent of the world’s remaining oil and gas reserves are located north of the Arctic Circle. The region is turning into one of the most important and most explosive areas in the world.
