J.R. Davis – Hi5 As the ’09 – ’10 school year begins, it is important to make sure WashU greatness is not only upheld, but also explored and greatened. Hi5 represents dedication to the Washington University community, but more importantly, to the WashU students. Our mission is to not only embrace academics, but also encourage class unity, foster school spirit, and create an audience for the student voice. As your class officer, I can guarantee that an effort be placed on developing long-lasting traditions, promoting dialogue and forming relationships between faculty/administration and the student body, and pursuing programming and events that enhance the WashU experience. Hi5 embodies a higher ideal for students at Washington University. With your support, Class Council can make a footprint for the future.
Robert Kim – Nickel My name is Robert Kim, and I am running for the Internal Vice President. One of my aims, if elected, is to increase the transparency between the student body and elected members. I hope to develop an effective working relationship with the student body and address the concerns of each and every student. If I am fortunate enough to become your Internal Vice President, I will serve not one race, not one group, and not one interest, but instead all races, all groups, and all interests. Our class council campaign must be about defining the meaning of a Washington University student, restoring our sense of common purpose as a class, and realizing that few issues can withstand the power and obstinate nature of a new generation that wants change, the class of 2013. Just by the power of our own slate, this transformation will not happen. Divided, we will likely fail. That's why I'm in this race. Not just to hold a position, but to help us create a more cohesive community. Different from other positions in the college council, the Internal Vice President must possess the ability to organize and communicate between the various student representatives of the class to form one of the best years this community has ever seen. I have spent three years in charge of an African AID Organization and have held the position of president of my youth group for the same time period, both tasks that implemented and achieved many of these same goals. Without a doubt, our founders have designed a community of Washington University that can be changed by its own students. Even today, we can see the ever-evolving face of the University. It is with an undeniable faith that people who love their community can and will change it for the better. I hope to be one of those people.
Will Rogers – Blues Friendly Five (BFF) To the class of 2013: My name is Will Rogers and I am running to be your vice president for internal affairs. To the point, I will be meeting with the various organizations and administrators of Washington University in order to make our plans and ideas come to life. As a class, we have only been on campus for a few short weeks, but I can personally say that I absolutely love it here. There is no place that I would rather be, and I want everyone to share my enthusiasm and spirit. With your support, we can create an environment of excitement for all the things that our fellow classmates are doing on campus. Thank you and I hope to see you all around campus.
Luke Terrell – F.L.O.W. We are only a couple of weeks into college, but I already feel a sense of pride to be a part of the class of 2013. At convocation we showed that we are loud, and can make ourselves get heard. At Club 40 we showed that we can dance, and can make ourselves get seen. At Service First we showed that we care, and can make a difference by serving others. At the Big Bang event we showed that we can have fun, and can make ourselves push through the masses in an effort to get on a bus during a poorly planned exit strategy... The class of 2013 has already shown itself to be filled with enthusiasm, intelligence, and diversity. We have confidence. We have swagger. We have flow. As a part of the class of 2013, it is your right to be have your voice heard and taken seriously. My name is Luke Terrell. I am running for the position of Internal Vice President for the class council of 2013, as a member of the slate “F.L.O.W.” (Freshman Leaders Of WashU). As a slate, we will strive to unite the class through various programming events. We want to not only work for you, but we want to work with you. We plan on keeping a strong connection with the class so that your opinions can be heard and your ideas can be materialized. As a Rodriguez and Ervin scholar from the north side of Chicago, I pride myself in my ability to bring diverse groups of people together. Between myself, our presidential candidate Tej Azad, external vice president candidate Michael Harries, treasurer candidate Nathan Brodell, and secretary candidate Munira Boxwala, F.L.O.W. feels confident that we can appeal to the desires of all freshman. We have a lot to offer to a class that clearly has a lot to offer to Washington University. Our hope is that you would allow us to do our best to lead the class through a great, life-changing year, by voting for F.L.O.W. on September 16th and 17th. Thank you, Luke Terrell Internal Vice President Candidate F.L.O.W.
Trish Yeh – Mystery Machine Hi, my name is Trish Yeh. I would like to serve the Class of 2013 as the Internal Vice President of the Freshman Class Council. I aspire to contribute my experiences and leadership skills to effecting immediate and long-term improvements in our class experiences, while promoting the welfares of various groups and individuals. As your Internal Vice President, I aspire to enhance communication within our class, encourage student participation in various organizations and events on-campus, and enhance our academic and social transitions into WU. Having grown up in Taiwan and studied in Connecticut for the past four years, I experienced the impacts of school cultures on the performances of students. In high school, I served as the editor-in-chief of the literary journal and editor of the newspaper. I was also the head of the radio station, spoken word poetry club, and Chinese club, founded a LGBT student discussion group, and began the fundraising efforts for 30 Hr Famine, Sichuan Earthquake, and girls’ education in rural China. As you could tell, I enjoy engaging in a wide array of experiences and caring for the needs of individuals. My proficiency in gathering information enables me to present on-campus opportunities to our class in the most efficient, systematic manner. I would also like to organize information about other services, such as information technology, Cornerstone, and dining services, to enhance their accessibilities to students. Through Freshman Class Council, I aspire to build upon these different facets of campus life to create the best freshman year for the Class of 2013. My experiences within Student Union further strengthen my leadership skills. Over this summer, I actively sought out ways to become involved in Student Union. I volunteered to assist Nate Ferguson and Jeff Nelson in Leading Wash. U. Style, SUp All Night, and other event preparations. I worked closely with the Assistant Director of Programming/Marketing on advertising for SUp All Night. After engaging in the Leading Wash. U. Style pre-o, I have been working on a new initiative of WU/FUSED (Washington University for Undergraduate Socio-economic Diversity). As the Internal Vice President, my greatest strengths are my determination, global perspectives, and leadership skills. My experiences under different cultural approaches toward gender, ethnicity, and education have built on my resilience, strengthened my communication and problem-solving abilities, and confirmed my belief in change. With a fresh, open mind, I aspire to better listen to, act upon, and mediate among different voices within our class.
