     PRE-OPERATIVE PATIENT
     INSTRUCTIONS

 1. On the day before your surgery you may have breakfast, a light lunch and dinner. Please do not eat or
drink after midnight. This includes coffee, milk, juice, toast, etc. It will not be safe to do your surgery if
    you have eaten.

 2. If you usually take prescription medications in the morning, you may take this medication on the morning
of surgery only with a sip of water (not a glass). Please do not chew any gum on the day of your
    surgery.

 3. Please stop taking all aspirin and aspirin containing products 14 (fourteen) days prior to your
surgery along with herbs and vitamins as some may have an adverse affect during surgery.
Attached is a list of medications containing aspirin or aspirin products. If you are taking blood thinners,
notify us immediately so that we may have your physician alter the dose to make your surgery safe.

 4. You must bring all your medications, including the dosage and how you take them, with you on the day of
surgery. On admission, the nurses will require this information as well as any medications you have taken
the morning of surgery. If you are diabetic, please inform your gynecologist and special instructions will
    be given to you.

 5. Please do no wear contact lenses or any jewelry (including rings) the day of surgery. We request that you
wear very light makeup or no makeup at all.

 6. Report to your doctor any change in your physical condition between the time you were scheduled for
surgery and the date of surgery. Your surgery may need to be rescheduled if you have the flu or a severe
cold. You must inform your gynecologist if you experience any chest pain, heart problems or breathing
    difficulties prior to surgery.

 7. If you are having outpatient surgery (expect to be discharged the same day), you must arrange for
someone to drive you home. You will not be able to drive yourself home after surgery!

 8. If you smoke, please refrain for 24 hours prior to surgery.

 9. Medical clearance is necessary, please be sure to keep your appointment with your primary
    physician.
