Internet Marketing Tips - Is Your Blog Too Busy?
I want to thank my friend Andy Henry from the Warrior Forum for inspiring this article. You might want to check out his blog at turntoandy dot com and see what he has to talk about. The reason he inspired this article is because Andy wanted to know if people thought his blog was too busy. I took at look at it and thought it was just fine. But what makes a blog fine or busy or whatever? Is it a subjective thing? Well, in a way, it is as everybody is going to have their own preference. In this article, you'll find my preference. Take it for what it's worth to you.
When I go to a blog, the first thing I look at is the header. I want to know what it is that I'm going to find there. I don't want to have to guess. So a clear header explaining what the content is going to consist of, like "Home Business Blog" or "Internet Marketing Blog" will really help me a lot in determining whether or not I even stay. And the header shouldn't have too much in it. Just tell me what I'm going to find.
Under the header, there shouldn't be too much. If you want to have a menu system, fine. But don't give me twenty-five different links to pages. A few are fine. Beyond that, I will either tend to get lost or won't even bother checking out all those other pages. I want to get right into reading the articles that you have on your blog. If the blog is going to be mostly videos and photos, make this clear in a brief intro. I don't want to have to guess.
On the right or left side of your blog there should be info that helps me, not distracts me. I'm talking about things like a list of your recent blog posts. Maybe have a list of categories so I can find the particular articles that I am interested in. I don't want to have to wade through a bunch of stuff just to find what I'm looking for. Make it as easy for me as I can to find what I need.
Don't have a ton of links pointing to outside your blog unless it is really necessary. I know you have to monetize this thing but having AdSense, CPA, affiliate links and heaven knows what, all over the place is only going to make me feel like all you care about is my money and not my viewing experience.
To me, this is what makes a good blog that isn't too busy. No, I'm not very picky, though there may be some out there that are much pickier than I am. The bottom line is this. If you don't think about your readers, they're not going to come to your blog and return a second time.
