 Dear colleague,

The fifteenth Meeting of Heads of Schools of Architecture in Europe will take place in Chania, Crete
from Saturday 1 September 2012 (arrival day) to Tuesday 4 September 2012 (Wednesday 5
September departure day) and is entitled “Improving learning quality in architectural education

The enhancement of the quality of learning appears to be a necessary condition for the improvement of
architectural education in challenging times, where there is an imperative demand to do more with less.
The aim of the Meeting is to provide Schools of Architecture with ideas, proposals and directions
emerging from the dialogue between those who have the responsibility of the management of the
academic issues and the development of the quality of learning in their institutions. It will offer the
possibility for a creative, constructive and critical dialogue between different architectural education
environments and will attempt to construct the necessary bridges and platforms for the exchange of
ideas, information and educational attitudes and cultures related to the quality of learning. It will
examine the enhancement of the quality of learning through strategic interventions in the curriculum
structure, through programs of staff development, through definition of criteria for staff and students
recruitment, through the implementation of innovative teaching methods, through initiatives for inter-
disciplinary and trans-disciplinary educational experiences. As every year, eminent keynote lecturers
are invited to contribute to the overall creative atmoshere of the Meeting.
Hoping that you will respond to this invitation, you are kindly requested to fill in and return the attached
registration form by 6th July 2012. In case you cannot be with us in September, would you be so kind to
identify another person, related to the administration of academic issues, to represent your School and
forward this message. It is very important to have a broader range of schools from all regions of
Europe in order to have pluralism, polyphony and diversity towards more representative results and

With great faith in your support to this attempt we are making, we look forward to seeing you at Chania.
