The Kick Start Quick Start is a strong, new system that allows you to be PRECISELY and powerfully focused on YOUR business. It will all funnel into a back end strategy where you can sell them more, get them to promote you, cross promote into your other networks, or refer them to similar products for a hefty commission. So stop stabbing in the dark and take your business seriously. Build a fully automated system that will be your number 1 employee. Start taking action and build a real business based on our Kick Start Quick Start. © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. Now remember this is just the Kick Start Quick Start for the full and more advanced complete Home Business Accelerator. In this Kick Start Quick Start, we are squeezing everything into one overview plan. Of course, by doing this, you are going to need to follow up with some research and have some basic understanding. So for those of you with a background on the Internet, even just a modest one, or an existing home based business, you will be able to jump in at the deep end and get going and make money right from the start. If on the other hand, you work through this Kick Start Quick Start and think, “but what about this” and “how about that”…don’t worry. That’s what the Home Business Accelerator is all about. A step by step, simple, but incredibly comprehensive coaching package tackling everything from training you in the brand new skills of being an entrepreneur, getting your mind set right, showing you how to create world class products practically out of “thin air”, how to set up your Internet based business from scratch and taking you through to master level in very little time and of course, as we promised, all the tools you will need to add to your learning experience and put each and every strategy into practice. Experts or people with a little experience may know the following, but why not read and refresh your memory? a) Adsense - This is a nice way of monetising information you have on a web page, and could work great with the right amount of traffic. The ads are relevant to the content of the web page, so it's 'invited' advertising. Go to: https://www.google.com/adsense/login/en_US/?sourceid=aso&subid=uk-enha&utm_medium=ha&utm_term=adsense&gsessionid=Q0xlWPp9R60y_qajU KLIgQ which will provide you with a brief explanation of what Google’s Adsense system is all about. Now if you are completely new to Adsense, don’t worry in future coaching modules, we will be taking you step by step through every element you need to learn and all the tools you need to implement this strategy. But first a few thoughts so that you get Adsense balanced with what we quite frankly consider much more powerful strategies that you should be learning and using early on. Some people make thousands of pounds a week off Adsense. That's great. But us? We suggest that it should not be your number 1 strategy. Adsense is reliant on Google. If they ever shut down your account, that's it. You've got no money, unless you have other streams of income. Google are not likely to shut down your account for no reason, but it happens sometimes, and you have to be prepared in case it ever does. © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 5 Kick Start Quick Start Google also pays what? around 50p”ish” a click normally? We always get around 50p a click anyway, it does depend on the keywords etc. By the way, we will fully explain the importance and power of keywords in future volumes as they play a crucial part in attracting your customers to your site. To get a nice payout per day you would need a lot of clicks, which means a lot of traffic. PLUS - we can't help thinking, are web masters LOSING money by letting their traffic go with Adsense? Okay, so they get 50p for that visitor, but what if they put a related affiliate programme ad in place of the Adsense block. They have the chance to make up to 50x more on that click if the visitor buys the product they're promoting. We've seen some stupid websites that sell their own products, with Adsense blocks dotted around. Are these web masters mad? They are losing potential customers for 50p. What's worse; they are losing them to competition! If you have your own products, or affiliate programmes to promote, we would NOT use Adsense, at least not as a main source of income for your site. Adsense is a moneymaker though, and a clever one too. It should not be ignored. Use it for general topic sites, general community sites and search engines. Even then, if there are opportunities that payout more than 50p, use them. IF they're good enough. What we tend to do, when we’re promoting one of our own products from our sites, or promoting affiliate products, is strategically place our ads in places where we feel the visitor would not be interested in anything else. We would rather them click the ad than the X. Good places are right at the bottom of a page; Customers are searching right down for something they like, and if they haven't found anything they'll hit the bottom of the site. Rather than the visitor clicking away, and going elsewhere, stick some Adsense there. Also, if you have a links page, or related sites, stick a block on there, because if they click on 'links' it's likely they want to leave... TIP - On pages where you're selling something or promoting something, make your ads actually look like ads. What we mean is that they should be bordered and different colours. Make them stand out. Why? Well, the last thing you want to do is get your visitor interested in what your selling or promoting, only to have them click on an ad, thinking it may be a related link. So, they're looking on the site and are interested. They want to know more, and they click on what looks like a 'link' to a different page, but part your site, only to see this whole different site, because the 'link' was really a disguised ad. This will leave your visitor feeling deceived, and they will probably hate you  © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 6 Kick Start Quick Start On the plus side, you'll get 50p! We've seen bad websites that do this. Let's say they're selling 'socks'. There's a picture of some socks in the main body of the website, and it's telling you all about them. The dimwit of a web master has put an. 'Adsense link unit' underneath his banner so it looks like a menu! Bet he/she thought he was really clever when he did that! Well, the visitor has only gone and clicked on the 'relevant' ad 'BUY SOCKS'. He or she has lost a customer, to competition. So, we hope that gives you a few tips on Adsense. Next time your putting, or you see, those funny little pictures next to the ads, or making the link units look like menus, think about it. Do you want 50p - or 50 times the amount? b) Affiliate Programmes – These can be very profitable, if you focus on this. A lot of people are very naive when becoming an affiliate for a product. They see the high payouts, all the glossy material the website gives you to promote it, and they think it will be an easy ride. They set up a 'review' website with fake testimonials. Don't misunderstand us; you could earn money being an affiliate this way. But why make life hard for yourself? There are ways to make being an affiliate easy. With the ways we are about to tell you, you can really make your money grow... You need to find a profitable niche to promote to. A niche where people are already buying, and 'hungry' for products. Let's pick one off the top of our rather simple heads (and if you hadn’t already noticed, they’re also both bald) - 'How To Play Guitar' – can you see us both as rock stars!. If you have a look on Google, and do some keyword research on the service that used to be called Overture, but has now been bought by Yahoo and is their Search Engine Marketing. Simply go here: http://sem.smallbusiness.yahoo.com/searchenginemarketing/ Anyway, by copying this service, you’ll see that “How to play guitar” is an active niche. Money is being spent, things are being talked about etc. Now, we urge you not to dive blindly into this. Think of what your mission is before taking it on. HUNGRY TRAFFIC LOOKING TO BUY > WEBSITE SHOWS THEM WHAT TO BUY > HUNGRY TRAFFIC BUYS > Right, the system above is affiliate marketing in its simplest form. YOUR job as an affiliate is to get between the traffic and the product. There are many © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 7 Kick Start Quick Start ways of doing this: Google Adwords Quick and targeted, but costs! Research your keywords. Article Marketing Not instant, works quite well. Again research keywords and target them with 300-600 word articles. Put your affiliate link in the signature of the article. Advertising A lot of sites allow advertising, there are also link brokers that distribute your links across partner websites. Costs, but can be effective if shown on the right websites. Directories Try using sites like Craigs List and USFreeAds for promoting affiliate products. Forum Signatures Post in related forums and give your sig exposure with affiliate link in. Be careful, some forums don't allow affiliate links. DON'TSPAM! SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) You can build blogs and mini sites reviewing the affiliate programmes. As long as you grow your content, with keyword rich original articles, and do the usual SEO, including getting link backs from directories and other websites, you should get listed in Google (eventually). The above is affiliate marketing the quick and shortsighted way. To be a SUPER AFFILIATE you shouldn't be promoting affiliate products on your front end. Sounds silly doesn't it? It's true. Super affiliates that profit from their traffic FOREVER, just want email addresses. The money is in the list & profits come from the Back End sales. Remember this as it is vitally important!. Here's what you should do to be a long-term super affiliate with a never-ending income stream that just gets BIGGER AND BIGGER! Choose your niche > Write two reports on the niche, or hire someone to write them > Set up an Opt In form, and write an auto responder series of around 50 emails, each one promoting a related affiliate product. Set the emails 5 7 days apart > Offer the reports to visitors in return for their primary email address & their first name > Promote Your Website > © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 8 Kick Start Quick Start The last step, “promote your website”, should be an ongoing job. It should be a daily task. There are many ways it can be done and we’re not going to baby sit you in this Kick Start Quick Start. We will go into all the various options and detailed strategies in the upcoming volumes. Paying for ads is a quick effective way, and if you have the budget, you can put your affiliate master plan into action instantly. You should devote part of your time to SEO, building links and growing content, so that your squeeze page will eventually get organic free traffic. Once you're getting traffic, you can move onto another niche to be an affiliate in. You can try moving onto a completely diverse niche, or one that's related. Totally up to you, and what you're comfortable with. Affiliate marketing should be an ongoing practice in your Internet Marketing Business, and you have to remember to focus on niches, and NEVER promote on the front end. You want their email address & first name and that's it - So you can profit from that same visitor over and over again for as long as you want. Imagine one niche - 100 subscribers (quite easy to get). You promote a product every week to each of those subscribers with a retail price of £50. You get £30 commission per sale (a normal percentage) as an affiliate from the product owner. You can only expect a small percentage of your list to buy, but as your list grows, so does your buyer percentage! Out of your 100 subscribers, only 5 buy the £50. That's 5 x £30. £150 - every week. Give or take a few pounds. From one niche, on auto pilot for as long as you get new subscribers, and actively promote your website. Imagine 2 affiliate websites. 10 x £30. £300 a week. 4 affiliate websites. 20 x £30. £600 a week. We know some very successful marketers with over a 100 affiliate income streams. 100 x £30 = £3000 a week. What if you super promote your sites, and get double the amount of subscribers, and double the amount of purchases? £6000 a week? £12000 a week. Unbelievable figures, but guess what. It's possible. Aim to do a site a © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 9 Kick Start Quick Start week for a whole year. Spend one day a week promoting them all and adding content. You'll end up with 52 websites, and if you have promoted them correctly, a massive amount of subscribers on your mailing lists. c) Your Own Products - There comes a time when every marketer, wants to be at the top of the food chain, and have their products selling on the market. Selling your own product means you can recruit affiliates, and take part in joint ventures. The income stream potential can be a lot bigger than affiliate income, with the right affiliates and Joint Ventures. With your own product you can start building a brand, and become trusted. Once you sell one product successfully, you have enough leverage to successfully sell another. You can even ask buyers what they want from you, if you're clever enough to get their emails as they buy. We cannot stress the importance of doing everything you can to acquire every visitor and making them your customer for life. Whether you entice them with free newsletters, products or samples, or you collect their email address when they buy - you should be building a big list to sell to over and over again. Selling a product also means you can build a brand around it, and operate resource sites and forums. The more buzz you get around your product the better. We would need three hands to count the times we've brought a product because of buzz in a forum. When you have your own forum or discussion sites, you can play the guru, and almost choose what they talk about. Building a brand and sites around your product also means better customer interaction, and more reason for them to stay around and see what you come up with next. You should also promote Back End sales, and one time offers. Sell complimenting affiliate products, to add another income stream. After promoting one e book (and by the way we never call them ebooks anymore, as that phrase has been significantly devalued. Nowadays we call them Resource Reports or something similar and so we’ll refer to them as Resource Reports throughout the rest of this Kick Start Quick Start), that sells, and building a steady buzz network around that product, it should be even easier to write and promote your next one, and get ideas for it. Using your niche buzz sites and mailing lists, you can survey your 'customers' and prospects on what they want. Then you give it to them. d) Your Own Service - There are big opportunities for designers and programmers on the Internet, as well as a host of other services you can provide. These are the big two in our opinion. If you have skills in these areas © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 10 Kick Start Quick Start you could easily earn pocket money, or maybe enough to become financially stable. There are whole sites devoted to 'freelancers', and just to name a few you could offer services on: www.rentacoder.com www.elance.com www.guru.com © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 11 Kick Start Quick Start YOUR VERY OWN INTERNET BUSINESS? a) The Internet Is A Sea Of Pirates... Let's talk about the business concepts in Internet Marketing... So, when you first started, did you ever think of this as a business? We know we didn't. We just wanted to make money. We ended up losing a lot through EBay and drop shipping scams. This is going right back to the very beginning. We had never really heard of the term Internet marketing, or at least we didn't know what it meant. We kept trying and trying with 'making money on the Internet', and sometimes we did make money, but we were still losing a lot. We were being very foolish. We signed up to everything. We paid for things, that we knew were too good to be true. Sound familiar? There are a lot of Internet pirates, who will scam you. Some very sinister, others more innocently, but at the end of the day you have got to avoid them. Most importantly, you have got to avoid becoming one of them. In the newbie days, you can easily get caught up in the 'fast track to wealth' strategies. You may think just because you've got scammed, it's OK to scam others. OK, so you may earn money scamming, but besides the fact that it is totally wrong, illegal and unethical, you can make a lot more long term, with your own online legitimate business. Kevin started taking it seriously and really thinking long term about a year ago when he was dabbling in the world of EBay, and began learning about niches. Learning about niches was a turning point for both of us. This is the way to think, and earn money: b) NichesDON'T SELL TO EVERYBODY SELL TO SOMEBODY A LOT OF TIMES You should read the above a couple of times until you truly get the concept. Don't try and sell something to everyone, unless you have no doubt it will be a massive success, and you're feeling lucky. Even companies that sell cars, cereal and even food don't sell to everyone. They market their products to certain niches. It's a lot easier to sell this way, and your efforts won't be thinly spread. If you're talking directly to 'someone', rather than trying to shout it out loud to everyone, you are much more likely to make a sale. When we first heard about niches, we thought it was a load of rubbish to be © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 12 Kick Start Quick Start honest. How is a product for 'Golfers For Over 40' going to make us more money than a product that appeals to everyone? We soon found out, after further educating ourselves, that the idea is to sell into multiple niches. If you tried to shout to everyone, that you had a product, a few will listen, a couple will buy. If you spoke to 5 people that you had a product made FOR THEM, we will be bold enough to say they will all buy, or at least 4 of the 5. It's so much easier, to sell to a niche. SO, 4 out of 5 is pretty good wouldn't you say? So why not sell into multiple niches, and sell really well, in small markets. We'll put that golden rule down again: DON'T SELL TO EVERYBODY SELL TO SOMEBODY A LOT OF TIMES Unless you have an absolute certainty, that your product can be marketed to everyone, all ages, all interests, all backgrounds and all countries, you will have to follow this rule at some point when marketing. The niche mentality, of selling to somebody a lot of times, is a key part of the Kick Start Quick Start. In fact, together with getting your mind right, this what makes it work, and the part about 'SELLING TO SOMEBODY A LOT OF TIMES' actually has a second meaning. Once we start outlining the system, you will know what we mean... e) What Is Internet Marketing? A lot of people get caught up in the hype of Internet marketing when they start out. They forget what they are actually doing. Sounds silly, we know, but Internet Marketing isn't a business model. It's a concept. Just a way of marketing your business. Your business could be based online, or off-line. The Internet can be used to market both businesses. © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 13 Kick Start Quick Start INTERNET MARKETING IS MARKETING ON THE INTERNET. The selling or promoting of information products online, and using Adsense or similar ad services to make money, is mostly referred to as Internet marketing. It has just stuck. So, we can accept that, but still know that 'Internet Marketing' isn't a business. Internet Marketing is what we do to market our online products. You 'use the Internet to market your product(s)', and your business is whatever you sell. Whether you promote others products, or sell your own. Maybe you're a blogger, and earn money off Adsense. Your 'blog' is your product…your content. It's good to know your business, and what it is you're doing. That's why we have gone through this with you at lightening speed here and will go through it in much more detail in the free videos and printed work books in future volumes. It's essential not to think that 'Internet Marketing' is your business. Your business is whatever you sell, and market on the Internet. It's also ESSENTIAL, to have a rock solid plan and system in place for your marketing, making everything almost automatic, recurring and easy add to or modify. So let's go through our Kick Start Quick Start, 20 Point Plan, to get you off to a flying start. This is a business plan, a system in which you will be organised and know exactly what you need to do each day to make a lot of money. If you have a system, or you are already happily making money doing whatever you're doing, you can still make use of the system. Import your existing business into this system and watch your profits go into overdrive. We’d like to suggest you could be missing out on some massive gold mines ... …So “let’s start at the very beginning” as that old song goes! © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 14 Kick Start Quick Start 1. WHERE TO START? OK, this business plan works on niche networks. Your own products (and we will show you exactly how to create your own world class products in 24 hours, in future volumes), should eventually be your main streams of income, but the good thing about a niche network, is that you can start with a simple newsletter, promoting affiliate products. You will grow and grow your network, and get to know your customer base and what they want. Eventually you can start selling them what they want, with your own line of niche products. Now, to start this we need a niche. We would say, start with something you would enjoy and is profitable. Doing something you enjoy means you will work hard at it. Anyway, why would you do something you don't enjoy. You might as well go to work 9 - 5. We want you to take a list and note down: a) The top 2 things you're good at b) The top 2 topics you're interested in c) 2 things about what your occupation involves d) 2 subjects you're passionate about e) Your 2 favourite subjects at school f) The top 2 qualifications you have g) Any certificates you have h) Any clubs/groups you belong to List every answer below each other. Each one is a potential niche per line! Now, you should have a list of possible niches. I did this, and this is how my list looks. GUITAR ART INTERNET MARKETING TECHNOLOGY INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MUSIC BAND I had a few doubles in my list that I deleted. So now we’re down to a list of 7. It's a mix of Internet Marketing related areas and Music areas. Both we think, © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 15 Kick Start Quick Start will be profitable. But we never assume they will be profitable, we need to know they are already profitable. We will go into that in just a second. © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 16 Kick Start Quick Start 2. IF YOU STILL DON'T HAVE A NICHE, DON'T PANIC... If you have listed down your potential niches, and you would just hate to do anything with them, or you don't think they're profitable. That's OK. We want you to do a couple of things for us. 1. Go Down to your nearest shop and buy a world news paper, a women's magazine, and a mens magazine. Read all 3, and note down things that keep cropping up. 2. Turn on the television, and go through all the channels. Take mental notes of channels, and what's on. It shouldn't take more than an hour to browse through. Doing these 2 things should definitely give you some ideas of a niche. Definitely. 3. A LIST OF MEGA PROFITABLE NICHES RIGHT NOW STOP SMOKING - Resource Reports/resource sites/newsletter WEIGHT LOSS - Resource Reports/resource sites/newsletter LOST < TELEVISION SERIES - forums/newsletters DAVID BECKHAM - forums/fan sites NATURAL CURES - newsletters/reports 4. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE TV SHOW “LOST” FINISHES OR DAVID BECKHAM RETIRES: Some of the niches above are what we call 'media driven' niches. Whatever is hot at this very moment. We had an argument with someone the other day about this. We told them about David Beckham and Lost being hot niches. © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 17 Kick Start Quick Start They argued that, you could only make money from them for the time that David Beckham is in the limelight, or Lost is on television. That is nuts. So as soon as Lost the TV series ends, you just throw away your massive mailing list of lost fans? ...And while Lost is still on television, all you market to them is Lost related stuff? No, and no. The Lost TV show, is just a doorway 'niche'. It's not timeless. Its just bait. Of course you market something about Lost to them. Maybe you could research the net and list 50 supposed endings of Lost and compile it into a Resource Report (remember this is our term for eBook!). Give it away to Lost fans in return for their email address & first name and bang! You build a massive list of what: Lost fans? (yeah, really profitable.) Or are you building a list of: People interested in: TV Shows, Mysteries, The supernatural, and mind benders. So you could market a lot to these people, even when Lost is still in production! GHOST RESOURCE REPORTS ALIEN RESOURCE REPORTS MYSTERY NOVELS SIMILAR TV SHOWS WEBSITE OF BRAIN TEASERS BRAIN TEASER BOOKS Get our drift? Don't avoid media driven niches. You may think you're being clever, because you know the market won't be timeless. But remember, the market isn't Lost fans: It's people interested in the attributes of Lost: TV SHOWS © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 18 Kick Start Quick Start MYSTERY SUPERNATURAL BRAIN TEASERS SIMILAR SHOWS/FILMS/BOOKS Don't limit yourself. Pick a niche that is HOT. Whether it's timelessly HOT, or media driven HOT. Right, so you should have a list of possible niches, you may or may not go into. This is the part where we find out about the niches, and if they're profitable or not. 5. FORGET COMPETITION Forget competition. But don't be stupid and try and make the next Google or eBay. If you don't have a USP, there's no way you will beat them. Why would you? Let's say we made an auction site, that's faster and cheaper than EBay. We very much doubt it will ever become more successful. EBay has already dominated the 'auction site' industry. Anyone who wants to sell his or her unwanted stuff will sell it on eBay. It's like Yahoo Auctions. Not as many people use that. Though, it is better, in many people’s opinions. To beat the big boys you need a USP. Unique Selling Point. Even with a unique selling point it is hard to beat the big boys. So, don't be stupid and enter a market, where one brand is successfully dominating, and there's no room for anyone else. Look at the market you're entering, don't bother with stats and how much competition you might have using the same keywords etc. Just look at the market. Look at the big boys. Ask yourself if you can beat them, and how you will be better than them. Think of your unique selling points. A big market just shows how profitable it is. It's a good sign. © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 19 Kick Start Quick Start 6. RESEARCH You should never assume that your niche will be profitable, without research. We’re not talking about days and days of extensive research, going out to the town centre and conducting surveys etc. That's boring. Here's how we research and get ideas for products/sites. We’re not going to keep you in the dark about our niches. We have a few, and we are working on right now is the Music niche. Music, is one of his passionate subjects. We play jazz, write songs, play classical guitar, is a good singer (really) and has even been a music producer whilst working as a minister of religion and he’s been in various bands. But that isn't the reason he chose it as one of his businesses. Seems to us, a lot of bands want to be heard. There's lots of news about bands becoming famous over the Internet, and there's a lot of musicians trying to do this. We have a few ideas for products, websites and newsletters, but we’re not entirely sure what we’re going to do yet. But we waste no time in earning money from a niche. We build a starting point, then we grow our business from there, exploring different sub niches, and related niches - we could eventually shift all our music customers and subscribers to a 'movie' or 'art' niche. Don't just stab in the dark though. You're a business. You don't want to waste time building a lovely looking website, based on a niche no one is interested in. Plan everything, but move fast. Nothing will be as perfect as you want. We’re perfectionists, and we have a hard time dealing with this fact. But we have to deal with it to earn more money. Get it on the net, make money, and then improve over time. But rather than improve, we think 'growing' is the key to a successful niche network. a) KEYWORD RESEARCH - FIND OUT IF YOUR NICHE IS BEING SEARCHED. The first thing we do, to research, is go on: www.NicheBotClassic.com © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 20 Kick Start Quick Start This tool tells us how many people are searching for keywords related to our niche. Enter a broad term, and it will break it down into the smaller terms. The broad term is the sort of phrase somebody would use when going a Google search and each of these phrases are called Long Tail Keywords. Note the big searches, what people are searching for. b) DO PRODUCTS SELL IN YOUR NICHE? This tells us if there's money being distributed in the niche, or is it just a 'resource' subject - like 'Playstation Cheats' or 'Chat Rooms'. Just because there's no money being spent though, doesn't mean it isn't an opportunity. You could easily work a 'resource' subject as a sub niche in a network, and build sites to earn money from Adsense, or start a newsletter. Funnel the subscribers to one of your products, or affiliate products, that are within the scope of the 'resource niche', and bang, your shifting the traffic into money hot spots. This is the beauty of having a network. Now go to: www.Amazon.com And have a look at books/cds in your niche. Although you may be doing an info product, Amazon is the best bet for researching if products are selling. If they are on Amazon, they are selling. Have a look at what the books are about, and what questions they answer. Note down everything. You are building a list of possible products or websites that are profitable. To have a look at info products, and the type of Resource Reports/products in your market go to the clickbank market place. www.clickbank.com Click on “market place” and type in your niche keywords. Have a look at what other people are selling. Get your ideas noted. © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 21 Kick Start Quick Start c) SNOOP AROUND Now, this one for both of us, is always a bit iffy, but we always do it just in case. Go to Google. Type in "{YOUR NICHE} + forum". This should bring up the forums in your niche. Have a look at the top 5, and note down any possible product or website ideas. If it's all a bit too broad, and there's no real questions being asked, try searching for: "{SUB NICHE} + forum" This may bring up a few targeted forums for you to have a snoop around on. Try it for a few of your sub niches. You should be building a pretty large list of ideas for products or websites now. d) THE STORY SO FAR... You've chosen a broad niche area to work in - that you think is going to be profitable. You've used Niche Bot, to check if your niche is actually being searched for. Then, you went on to Amazon to see if people were actually selling any products in the niche; If people are selling on Amazon, it means they're selling. Then you took a real close look at your competition on Clickbank - selling info products in your niche. You made notes about these. Those products on Clickbank in your niche will make you money. They take an important part in the Kick Start Quick Start and we will talk about this in much more detail in later coaching sessions. Just know that those products on Clickbank, are good news. e) YAHOO ANSWERS < GOLD MINE What a brilliant resource. This place is brilliant for researching product or website ideas in your niche. It's where people ask questions, and get them answered. It's a really active community, and covers nearly everything. Search your niche, or a preferred sub niche (based on your research) into the answers search box. © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 22 Kick Start Quick Start Now look through the most recent 10 pages of questions. We wouldn't bother with looking at the answers. What you're looking for is a trend of questions. Note down similar questions. There should definitely be a trend in there. From our research for the music niche – we found that there were lots and lots of questions about 'online song writing contests', which obviously gave us a great idea. There were also questions about recording songs, song writing tips and where to find other musicians. So note down your trends. Take a while researching. We spend quite a bit of time on answers. It's great. So that's how we research a niche, and find ideas. We’re not claiming this method to be the best. The websites are definitely not the best either. The web is so big, it's in your best interest to use websites you know work. You could spend days and days finding better ones, and getting used to learning them, but go with our strategy and you won’t go wrong. Just get into the mentality of working fast. Have a short-term plan of action that maybe covers 2 or 3 days or so. DO everything on that plan. Plan> Done & Dusted> New Plan> Done & Dusted 7. BUILDING A PROFIT MACHINE (NICHE NETWORK) You should have a niche and a list of possible ideas now. You've researched the market. What they want, and what they're talking about. You also know that stuff sells in the niche. Think of a few product ideas, or major website ideas you may want to sell to the niche, and start planning. a) NETWORK POWER For your niche your aim is to build a network that you grow and grow, with new products, websites, forums, memberships and a newsletter. Your network will become really powerful, because you can cross promote between the different parts of it, and even to other niche networks you will eventually have. What a network does is brings all the sub niches together, and literally shifts © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 23 Kick Start Quick Start traffic to other parts of the network they may be interested in. So it is very powerful, and brings in a number of factors: UPSELLS SIDE-SELLS 'SITE STICKYNESS' TRAFFIC LOYALTY TRAFFIC RELATIONSHIP AUTHORITY CREDIBILITY BRAND POWER NICHE DOMINATION You should definitely have a back end part of the network too. A place where everyone who signs up to one of your newsletters or buys one of your products goes to. Here you can show them exclusive products, cross promote other products, or promote affiliate products. You are looking to build lots of streams of income from one organised machine. You need to make it 'sticky' too – b) STICKY SITES No, don't go reaching for that glue. Making your websites 'Sticky' means not abusing your traffic/visitors/buyers/list by showing them absolute rubbish - and just wanting their money. You will earn more money in the long run, by being respectful to your 'customers'. The minute you start selling rubbish, is when you lose long term customers that come back and buy from you again and again. Make sure the stuff you promote to them is good. By all means sell to them, because that's what you want, people who will buy. You're not a charity. There will be people on your list, or that come to your website, that think you are. Wipe that idea out their heads, and sell good stuff. You will eventually filter out the 'freebie hunters'. They will opt out of your mailing list if they're not getting enough freebies. Speaking of freebies, do give bonuses, and free stuff to buyers, long term © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 24 Kick Start Quick Start subscribers, etc - but not too much. What you are doing is building a relationship, but don't forget why. YOU SELL GOOD QUALITY PRODUCTS. And that brings us to why your ego is your worst enemy, read on. c) YOUR EGO WILL KILL YOU! One more thing, don't let your ego get in the way. It's got in our way plenty of times. Sometimes we won’t promote a product if we haven't tried it ourselves because it's unethical. That's stupid. Look at all the TV adverts. You're telling us the producer of that TV station has tried all those products on adverts? We've also been very careful in the past about our products and websites. We've spent weeks contemplating a certain part, only to change it weeks after. Now we just dive in, plan what need to do, and NEVER change it. If we see a chance for improvement, or we feel the plan definitely isn't making us money, after trying it out, only then do we change it. Don't let ego get in the way and focus on what will make you money. d) MAKE DECISIONS FAST & BE SUCCESSFUL SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE MAKE DECISIONS FAST, AND CHANGE THEM SLOW. FAILURES MAKE DECISIONS SLOW, AND CHANGE THEM FAST We can't remember where or who we quoted that from, but it changed the way we do business. It's very hard to get to grips with, but we think we’ve nailed it. It's almost painful, making a decision. If you're so used to working for someone else or doing jobs for someone else, you'll find it hard making you're own decisions. Unfortunately, with your own business, you can't afford to NOT make decisions. And you definitely can't afford to keep changing them. It will cost you time and money. Even though it’s hard, you've got to trick your brain into thinking there's no other decisions to make, and focus. It doesn't matter if your decision isn't perfect, or your decision isn't right at all. What matters is that you've made a decision. Without making a decision, you cannot progress. Don't be overwhelmed by opportunity. Write all the opportunities you're putting on hold in a notebook, so you can maybe try them out on a rainy day... © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 25 Kick Start Quick Start 8. SO NOW WHAT? Whether you have a few product ideas, or a few website ideas, they take time. Even when you outsource them. So while these are being made, why not start building your list, so you can, when your product/site is ready, send them all to it. Better still why not make money from your list while you build your products or sites? 9. START WITH THE OPT IN Every time we start a new business, a new niche, to make websites and sell products for, we don't wait until we've made our products, and built our websites until we start earning money. We start earning money right away. Then we grow our network gradually. Start with a newsletter for your niche, and then promote affiliate products. This is easy, and could earn you lots of money while you're making the proper substance of your network. You only need an auto responder series, an auto responder, and a page to put your opt in. If you're going to be building a mailing list, you NEED aweber: www.Aweber.com or similar. Aweber will cost you about $19.50 per month. It's basically a membership that sorts out everything from building lists, making opt in forms, to delivering mail at a near to 100% rate. NOTE: Don’t even start thinking about using Outlook or Mac’s Mail or anything similar. They simply cannot do the job you need them to do. The ins and outs of Autoresponders, are outside the scope of this Resource Report, but they are easy enough. Simply sign up for an account, add a new list, and write an auto responder series. And don’t forget, we’ll provide you with comprehensive training on a top class autoresponder and also provide you with our compliments with another alternative auto responder in the up coming volumes. The length of the autoresponder series, is up to you. You can also add to it. It takes hardly any time either really. Go for 52, and set it up to send a mail each week. That's a years worth of weekly mail for each of your 'customers'. You can always change the mails, or shorten the series. You’re looking to build a series that has a year of interesting articles and affiliate links. © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 26 Kick Start Quick Start When you launch your product you will change the series, so that it doesn't anticipate, it just promotes. NOTE: When you release your product, you can add it to the auto responder series, and promote your own product among others. It might also be worth removing any product that will be in direct competition with yours, though a lot of marketers recommend promoting competing products. No they're not mad. It makes some sense, though we've never done it: "If a customer has seen your product, and isn't going to buy, it's likely he/she will go elsewhere. Why not recommend them that 'elsewhere' and gain a chunk of commission off the sale?" Only on the Internet could a business model be this crazy. 10. BUILDING A 52-WEEK AUTO RESPONDER SERIES IN 52 MINUTES. Building an auto responder list is easy. You can either do it the hard way or the easy. The hard way means strategically conditioning your list with use of neuron tingling words, and entertaining them with witty articles. That takes a lot of time, and you need to be focusing on growing your network and writing/outsourcing your products for now. You can always go back and amend the auto responder series. For now, you are just looking to build a list that will promote affiliate products in the niche. OK, a 52 weeks series. We think ideally you will want 1 email a week, with an affiliate link tied in. Do we expect you to write 52 emails? Don't be daft. Go to www.ezinearticles.com Type in your niche, or sub niche, or related keywords. You should have lots of results come up. You need to gather 52 articles. Copy and paste them into a text editor. Remember to keep the signature of the articles. Always do this. Now, sign in to your auto responder account. Start a new list, and build your series up. Paste in your articles, but add a little text before and after them. © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 27 Kick Start Quick Start For the first email follow this example: "Hi {NAME}, Thanks for signing up to my newsletter. The Launch of 'How to write a song in an hour' is coming very soon…and of course, because you are on this list, you will have first dabs on it, as well as a host of pre launch bonuses. Here's an article I found interesting while browsing the net and thought I would share it with you: --INSERT ARTICLE— I've also been playing around with this recording software, and found it to be the best one I've used yet. I honestly can't believe the owner is literally giving this software away! You've got to check it out: {AFFILIATE LINK} Your Name, www.website.com” Now, an important point is that affiliate links sometimes look bad. If you are promoting to a market that might know what an affiliate link looks like, you need to cloak it. We would advise cloaking anyway. Another method that sometimes works quite well in niches that are familiar with affiliate links, is giving the subscriber a choice between buying from your link or buying directly. It costs them no more to buy from your link, so because of your honesty, they will most likely buy through your link. It also shows that you aren't bothered about the commission, you just really wanted to show your subscribers that particular product. You're looking for around 52 of those emails. Make sure the articles are good, and it's great if you can link the article to an affiliate link. We mentioned before, the best place to look for affiliate products is www.Clickbank.com . Failing that you could try www.PayDotCom.com another digital product vendor. Get around 30/40. You should definitely promote the really good products twice or three times. It usually takes someone more than one look to buy. On the odd occasion people buy on impulse. This is made possible © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 28 Kick Start Quick Start through anticipation, or brand identity. The use of networks, enforces brand identity - and your mailing list will build anticipation and brand relationship for subscribers. 11. HOW DO I GET LOTS OF SUBSCRIBERS FAST ?! So you've started with your mailing list, which will run on autopilot - with little maintenance. You need to make sure you are actively promoting the newsletter, and getting sign ups. The more sign ups you get, and the more anticipated your subscribers are, the more surge of sales you will get on launch. a) Google Adwords So what's the best way to get sign ups? Google Adwords is fast and cheap if you use it right. You can be up and running in 15 minutes. You basically pay for each click you get. It could be anything from £0.10 to £40. Make sure you target low cost keywords with high enough traffic. Set a daily budget and let it do the work for you. We will go into a lot of detail about exactly how to do this with superb supporting videos in future volumes. SEO takes longer most of the time, but is very effective in the long run... and we shall teach you everything you need to know over the next 12 volumes so that you will be a great SEO operator pulling in the best traffic by the time you’re finished. If you've got a little money to spend - £50, we would definitely recommend Adwords. If not - have you ever heard of MySpace marketing? b) MYSPACE MARKETING www.MySpace.com is a large social networking site on the Internet. Whatever your niche is, we’re sure you will find people on their willing to sign up. © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 29 Kick Start Quick Start All you need is a little tool called Badder Adder. It's not expensive. It adds friends automatically. You can look for certain groups on MySpace and add all the friends from that group. www.BadderAdder.com One of our niches is music - and music is huge on MySpace, so we would go to popular band profiles and add all those friends, and then go to Music and guitar groups, and add all those friends. You have to be careful with how many friends you add per day though, or else your account gets blocked. You need to make it look humanly possible. We never go above adding 300 friends a day. On MySpace, having friends is having power. You can send out a bulletin to all your friends. The more friends you send a bulletin out to, the more response you will get. Let's say 10% will sign up. 100 friends - 10 sign ups 1000 friends - 100 sign ups 10,000 friends - 1000 sign ups Do you see where we’re going here? You'll be happy to know that we have a little viral trick that will make your subscribers tell all their friends. Read on to find out more. 12. What will make them subscribe? You will need something to entice visitors to subscribe. You can entice visitors to subscribe by newsletter content, or a free gift for subscribing. a) The Content Method For newsletter content, you will want it closely focused on something in the niche. It will need to be desirable info. Give the newsletter a hyped up name and you should be fine. For our music niche, we’re thinking along the lines of: "GIVE YOUR OWN MUSIC A MEGA-BOOST" eZine £197 VALUE - a weekly eZine, in your mail like clockwork, revealing the insider secrets of music © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 30 Kick Start Quick Start promotion on the Internet." We won’t get into copy, because that is outside the scope of this Kick Start Quick Start, but notice the words we use to entice visitors into signing up. But don’t forget we are going to go into detail and provide you with a lot of practical hands on help to develop your copywriting skills and even provide you with a copywriting programme within the upcoming volumes. We've made this newsletter sound absolutely amazing. We gave it a £197 value. This works a treat. Notice, we also call it an eZine instead of a newsletter. An 'eZine' sounds posh. b) The 'Gift' Method Another great way to entice visitors into subscribing to your mailing list is by using a 'gift'. You can give the gift a value, and make it desirable. Just make sure the gift is not rubbish. It's easy to make something rubbish look good. But you will get a lot of people unsubscribing and hating you if it isn't actually good. It's easy to find quality gifts in your niche. b.I) Where to find cheap or free stuff to give away First we would try the goldmine called Ebay. Assuming you want an info product to give away, Ebay has really grown in that area. There are thousands of info products in lots of different niches. Private Label Material has become popular too. We would search: "{NICHE} eBook" (NOTE: This is the only section in which we still refer to the term eBook for obvious reasons as you are searching for free gifts.) Have a browse at the results, and find one that gives you rights to give it away. Ideally, it would be great to have Private Label Rights, so that you could insert your affiliate links or brand it with your website name. Failing Ebay, try searching the Internet with searches like: "{NICHE} eBook PLR" "{NICHE} eBook Private Label Rights" It might be an idea to try searching without the "eBook" term too, to see if there are any audio or video products out there. © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 31 Kick Start Quick Start You would definitely be able to pick these up cheap. You won't have to go spending a fortune. An alternative to look at is www.Gutenberg.org A wide range of public domain books are available there, and although you have to dig deep, you may just be able to find a little gem in there. You need to check the license for each book separately, but generally you can do, whatever you want with works, in the public domain. The books may need some work doing to them. So take a little time updating it and making it relevant. b.2) Failing that, why not write your own - in 2 minutes? If you couldn't find any private label books, or public domain articles, we have a quick fix solution, that won't take long at all. Maybe you should sit down, and research a topic in the niche, that would make a great report. Maybe you should spend a couple of days typing it out. If you have the patience and time to do this, fine. We recommend it. If you haven't got the patience, and just want to get moving we recommend this: Decide on a topic to write your report on. Make it highly focused and desirable to your niche. Go to www.EzineArticles.com and search: {NICHE TOPIC} Up comes a load of articles. Some you may have to weed out. Choose 10 - 20 really good quality articles, and copy and paste them into a document. Make sure you're using the signatures too. Format the document and add your own text between the articles, maybe summarizing them, and giving your own input. Export it into a PDF and bang. There, you've got your report. PLEASE NOTE: It may be a good idea to contact all article authors, letting them know you are compiling their article into an Resource Report, and that they should let you know if they do NOT want their article included. They shouldn't have a problem. It's more exposure for their article. So now, you've either got your 'gift' or your super eZine content to entice subscribers. © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 32 Kick Start Quick Start Let's move on. 13. Making Your Opt In Form Viciously Viral So you've got your opt in, and you've got your enticer, You may have even mastered Adwords or MySpace to get some good, healthy, and constant surges of traffic to your site. Is that it? No, you can get twice as many opt ins with this simple method: • • • Upon subscription, show your 'customer' a mega product. (Obtain the product, the same ways outlined in an earlier chapter.) Give it a value, and tell them they can have it for free if they refer 3 friends. (Add a tell-a-friend form at the bottom.) Those 3 friends referred, refer 3 more EACH. Those 9 Friends refer 3 EACH. Those 27 Friends refer 3 friends EACH. See what are we getting at? It will be ultimately viral. No stopping it. Obviously you won't get a 100% referral rate, and some subscribers may even put duff emails in the tell-a-friend form, but overall, we think it will significantly add to the amount of subscribers you get. 14. Make It Look Good. In our opinion, graphics mean a hec of a lot. It's been the difference between buying and not buying in many cases with us. We think it shows how much you value a product, and how professional it will be. Although we don't like the corporate look. When a website looks as if its owned by a giant corporation, when really its just one person. We like something in the middle, that isn't too amateur. Something honest. Too many flashy widgets and colours annoys visitors. A boring vanilla site, may put people off. Something in the middle that shows professionalism, and class, we think is the best way to go. Check out www.CambridgeBusinessAcademy.com as an example and also to access a lot of extra FREE coaching material. © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 33 Kick Start Quick Start If you're starting out, and do not have enough money to outsource just yet, we recommend doing some of your own graphics. Eventually you should be outsourcing everything and just focusing on the business. We will talk about this later. Outsource your graphic jobs to www.BlingCovers.com Possibly the best designer in the industry. Anyway, if you're going to be doing your own graphics you need an easy programme, and preferably FREE! We absolutely love Adobe Photoshop elements. It's dirt cheap, and is amazing for creating quick graphics to go on the web. While it's not free, they do offer a free 30-day trial you can take advantage of. Thirty days of applying the strategies used in the Kick Start Quick Start system will earn you enough to buy this software. An alternative that's completely free, forever, is the GIMP. You may have heard of it. We have had a play around with it, and let us just say, it can be quite awkward to use at first, but there are tonnes of free tutorials on the net to get you started. It can actually be very powerful in the right hands 15. Web Design We outlined near the start of this Kick Start Quick Start that we didn't do websites. Websites are for corporate businesses wanting to outline their business values, and maybe sell their products. The principles of the Kick Start Quick Start is based on networks of Minisites. Each mini site has a job, and funnels back into the main product of the network. Those general websites with Home, About Us, News, Policy etc. are a thing of the past for us. We like our mini sites to be focused on one particular topic. We like them to do one thing, and not let the visitor do anything else. We usually design our own simple templates, or out source the projects that are a bit special. a) Templates © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 34 Kick Start Quick Start Free and pretty good templates can be found at www.OSWD.org They are easily edited with your own info and graphics... But you need a decent web editor. Obviously Dreamweaver is the king of web editors, but quite expensive. For a free editor you can try the NVU web editor: www.nVU.com We are going to be providing you with this and lots of other software, in fact every tool you will need to build your business and detailed instructions about how to use it, in the upcoming volumes. It works. It will enable you to edit templates, build wesbites, add adsense, add your opt in forms - everything. It's basically all you need. 16. Expansion So, once you have your network 'buzzing', you can think about expanding it more with forums, more blogs, maybe a MySpace profile, a Squidoo page etc. You want to be everywhere. You want leads. Join a few forums in the niche, and participate in discussions. Don't spam, but reference pages or articles from your sites. You can also include your main page in your signature too. 17. Your Own Product With all this traffic, and people on your list, why not start thinking about releasing a product. Using the research chapter in this book go through the usual steps: www.nichebotclassic.com Use nichebot to identify keywords and similar keywords. You want to know what people are searching for. www.amazon.com Use Amazon to have a look at what's selling in your niche. What's the best seller? What do the books tend to be about? © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 35 Kick Start Quick Start www.clickbank.com Have a look at the digital products in your niche and how much they are selling for. Look at the quality of their sales pages, and you could even buy one. See what they're saying. Then, basically make yours better. www.answers.yahoo.com The perfect place to have a look at what questions are being asked in your niche. Note frequent questions, and cover it in your Resource Report. a) Writing Your Book Now you can get someone to write this book at www.elance.com or similar sites. You can afford it with all these affiliate commissions coming in from your network. If you still would prefer to write it yourself do so. Some people find it an enjoyable experience, especially if it's something you're passionate about. Get your book at least 30 pages and price it accordingly to work with the competition in your niche. Don't make it too cheap or it will devalue your product. Convert your finished version into a PDF using OpenOffice Writer - a free word processor. www.OpenOffice.org b) Selling Your Resource Report Get your Resource Report onto your server. Put it in a folder with an encrypted name so that people won't guess the download page. Something like: www.YourWebsite.comlh777gshsgsgdfdfNourResource Report.zip By the way this is not a real link, just an example. Also, if you upload your book in a zip file, the search engines won't index it. You can also get some very good software called www.DLGuard.com that will ensure your downloads are guarded, set up automated delivery and handle payments. © 2009 Kevin Potts & Cambridge Business Academy Ltd. All rights reserved. 36 Kick Start Quick Start As for payment the Internet universal system is still www.PayPal.co.uk , or .com outside of the UK. But if you list your product on www.Clickbank.com you can use their payment, which also has PayPal as an option. You should always offer instant download. Make your “Successful Payment” page, the page to download your product. c) Build A List Of BUYERS! You should be actively building a list of people that buy your product. A sneaky way would be to offer lifetime updates of the product on the “Thank You” page, all they have to do is fill in the opt in form with an email and name. Of course, then you can send them various offers they may be interested in, as well as the updates. You could also word it so that they have to sign up to receive the download link. Also mention that you will use their email to send them updates and related offers etc. Building a list of buyers will secure your future in this niche. Selling to people that have bought form you before is easier than selling to strangers. You'll find that your list of customers is also more responsive to affiliate programmes you promote to them. 18. Get Affiliates and JV Partners Although your need for affiliates and JV partners will be considerably less, because of your 'already active' network of lists and websites, why not get more sales. Use www.clickbank.com or www.paydotcom.com to set up your own affiliate programme for your Resource Report. Affiliates actively look for books in their niche they can promote. You could even contact regular buyers on your customer lists to see if they are interested in becoming an affiliate. You will have to explain the term and concept of being an affiliate to Internet Marketing newbies. You can also contact marketers in your niche, with big lists, directly, and offer them a more valuable commission than you do with your normal affiliates. Something closer to 80% commission would be acceptable for a big JV partner.
