1. Agenda Additions

        11. Search for an Arts Consultant (IFO Addition)
        12. Public Information Officer (IFO Addition)

2. Course and Program Approvals

The administration was informed (via e-mail attachments) that Faculty Senate approved courses and programs from
the October 5, 2005 A2C2 meeting (see Senate minutes 10/10/05).

The administration acknowledged receiving the information via e-mail last week.
3. Committee Appointments

The administration was informed (via e-mail attachments) that Faculty Senate approved a large list of
faculty appointments from fall committee solicitations (see Senate minutes 10/10/05).

The administration acknowledged receiving the information via e-mail last week.

4. University Studies Program Director

The administration was informed that Faculty Senate (unanimously) approved A2C2's nomination of J.
Paul Johnson to fill a second three-year term as USP director (2006-2009).

The administration received the information.

5. University Librarian Search

The administration was informed that Faculty Senate recommended the addition of two librarians to the
composition of the search for University Librarian (with the understanding that the non-teaching position
could also be a librarian).

The administration agreed to the addition of two more librarians.

6. Career Services Advisory Committee

The administration was informed that Faculty Senate referred the Career Services Advisory Committee to
Committee on Committees for membership solicitation (essentially approving it). In addition, M. Kesler
requested the administration to consider Counseling Center staff for membership among the faculty
volunteers.

The administration will consider the request.

7. Task Force to Review Committees

The administration was informed that Faculty Senate referred the Task Force to Review Committees to
Committee on Committees for membership solicitation, as constituted by the administration.

The administration received the information.

8. Search for Vice President of Academic Affairs

The administration was informed that Faculty Senate referred the Vice President for Academic Affairs
Search Committee to Committee on Committees for membership solicitation, as constituted by the
administration.

The administration received the information.
9. National Scholarships Application Review Committee

The administration was informed that Faculty Senate referred the National Scholarships Application Review
Committee to Committee on Committees for membership solicitation, as constituted by the
administration. However, the administration was also informed of the following comments from the
10/17/05 Senate meeting:
1. Because of some (scholarship’s) early fall deadlines, faculty on this committee could be asked to work before
fall classes (duty-days) begins. If there is summer work, will there be compensation for faculty participation on
committee?
2. Compensation must be provided (in the form of extra duty-days) if faculty is asked to work in the summer.
The administration was queried about the possibility of summer workdays for this committee.

VP-Gorman stated the administration would talk to Grants Director Peterson about summer needs for faculty. The
administration should be responding at the next Meet and Confer.

10. Chief Information Officer Discussion

M. Kesler informed the administration that Faculty Senate felt having a CIO discussion forum on
October 14 would not be a good day because of the short notification time and also because Nursing
(and perhaps other departments) have all-day meetings planned for that date. Therefore, another day to
discuss the Chief Information Officer would be preferable.

The administration stated they will pick another date and was reminded that at least a one-week advance notice
would be appreciated.

11. Search for an Arts Consultant (IFO Addition)

WSUFA exec’s queried the administration about the search for an Arts Consultant at WSU.

Administration comments/responses:
1. Having an Arts Coordinator/Director is part of the L21 initiatives. The group that has this L21 grant is still
doing research on the needs/costs of an Arts Consultant/Director.
2. Decided that search for a director should not be started this year. Part of the money was then used by the
group to hire an arts consultant to help with needs/costs of an Arts Director. Several arts consultants will
be interviewed in the next few weeks. One consultant will be hired.
3. This L21 funding is one-time money only.
4. Job description of Arts Coordinator/Director includes: someone with experience in Arts administration
and academics, help with coordination and publicizing of WSU arts events (i.e. Lyceum Series). In the
past faculty bringing in Lyceum speakers do all the above. Having an Arts Coordinator/Director would
free up faculty’s time working on arts-related events/activities.

12. Public Information Officer (IFO Addition)

WSUFA exec’s queried the administration on whether there is a search for a Public Information Officer.

The administration stated that a search is going on and is in its final stages. The search is to fill the vacancy (due to
a resignation) in the University Advancement area. The committee is presently looking at trimming four
candidates to two on-campus interviewees.

                                                                                                                       3
Adjourned at 3:15 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,
Bill Ng. (WSUFA Senate Secretary FY06)
