                       Hospitalité AGM
Welcome to the spring edition of our newsletter. Isn’t it lovely to see the sun and blue
sky after all that snow earlier in the year??!!

You will find a number of forms included in this newsletter that are simply duplicates of
the forms that were in the winter edition. Please only complete and return them if you
have not already done so.

May I take this opportunity to reiterate that at our 2009 AGM, the membership voted to
have royal blue as the sole colour for the Hospitalité uniform. This is now part of our
constitution. Therefore we ask that when representing the Hospitalité during Processions
or in Masses within the Domaine you wear a royal blue top. This will make you easily
identifiable for other members of the pilgrimage and for our sick pilgrims.

During that same meeting, the following was also put into our constitution:
 Whilst on duty, members may not wear shorts, trousers above calf length, sun tops
      or vests.
 Whilst on duty, all members must wear their photographic identification on a
      Liverpool lanyard.
Please bear the above points in mind when packing your bags for the pilgrimage! We now
have break points available for the lanyards. If you are concerned that your Liverpool
lanyard will not break if it gets caught, come and see Dorothy or me whilst we’re in
Lourdes and we will insert a break point.

A number of people have requested that when advertising Masses and meetings that I
provide directions to the venues. Unfortunately, I cannot meet this request. Our
membership literally comes from every part of the Archdiocese. We are indeed far flung
and widespread. I would find it near on impossible to provide directions which would
prove useful to every member who seeks them. I do provide the full postal addresses to
enable you to find the addresses in street atlases or by keying it into your sat nav! I’m
sorry I cannot be of further assistance.

One last plea, if you change your contact details, please do let me know so that I can
update our contact database.

I hope to see you all at the May Mass on the 14th.

Until then, take care

Una Giles
Secretary to the Hospitalité
      A time for prayer...

The Mass for current members of the Hospitalité
                             will be held on
                        Friday 14th May at 8pm
                                    at
Our Lady Immaculate, Downall Green Road, Bryn, Ashton-in-Makerfield
                               WN4 0LZ

Please try to attend this Mass. It is a great opportunity for us to come together
as a Hospitalité before the pilgrimage.

Our new Hospitalité Chaplain, Fr Ron Johnson, will be there.
A number of you will know him from when he worked with the Hospitalité a
few years ago. Since his Ordination, Fr Ron has been a Youth Chaplain.

                                        Night Duty

It is becoming increasingly difficult to staff night duty during our Pilgrimage. As you will
recognise, our sick pilgrims need care 24 hours a day. Over the last 3 years we have
relied on a very small number of volunteers to cover night duty. We need to widen this
pool of people to ensure we have adequate care of sick pilgrims during the night. All
Hospitalité who work on night duty are supported by at least 2 nurses and a doctor is on
call. Those who work during the night will also be given the whole of the next day off to
recover. In the interests of being fair and practical we don't ask people who are travelling
on the Jumbulance (as they effectively do 2 night duties on the outward and homeward
journeys), people who are in the first year of working as Hospitalité and people over the
age of 70 to do night duty.

This year you may be on the night duty rota even if you have not volunteered to do a night
duty on your travel and duty information form. If there is a specific reason why you
should not do night duty then please contact me by 1 st June. This will give us plenty of
time to prepare the rotas in advance of the final meeting.

Many thanks in anticipation of your support in this matter.

St Frai Coordinator

                         Renewal of CRB Disclosures

We have all completed CRB disclosures over the past few years.

I do appreciate that a number of you will work in organisations that have a
renewal policy – as I do – and I have had a few queries recently regarding
whether we need to renew our pilgrimage disclosures every three years.
Although it is classed as good practice, there isn’t a legal obligation to renew
disclosures.

So, we are not actually required to renew our pilgrimage disclosures –
providing that they are the CRB enhanced disclosures and not the old police
checks we used to do. Even if we have missed a few pilgrimages, we do not
need to renew them.

With the introduction of the Independent Safeguarding Authority and their
registration process, we will no doubt be going through further processes in
the next few years. You will be informed what you need to do when we reach
that stage. Until then, you can relax knowing that you do not need to do
anything more than you have already done.
                                          Calling all members
                                           new and old.......
This year’s practical preparation day will be held on
                          Saturday 12th June from 9.30am to 3.30pm
                                                at
The Academy of St Francis of Assisi, Gardners Drive, Liverpool, L6 7UR

It is important that anybody working as a Hospitalier with our pilgrimage
attends the preparation day. It enables our skills and knowledge to be
refreshed ensuring that we keep ourselves and the St Frai pilgrims safe during
                               our pilgrimage.

Please bring your handbooks with you as they will be referred to throughout
the day and new ones will not be issued.

                                 Recognition of Service
The Liverpool Hospitalité formally recognises length of service in Lourdes at
                                     3, 5 and 10 years.
Are you due to receive a service medal?
If so, please fill in the form below and return it to:

Please do not complete this form if you are not due to receive a service medal this year!
During our pilgrimage, if anybody expresses their
dissatisfaction to you or wishes to make a formal
                      complaint…

Please ensure that you take the person to Dorothy
Summers as President or Catherine McCarthy as
the St Frai Coordinator there and then.

If neither Dorothy nor Catherine are
available, please note down all the details
and ensure that they are passed to either
lady at the earliest possible opportunity.

This will ensure we have the maximum opportunity
to resolve any issues whilst we’re in Lourdes
ensuring that everybody goes home happy and
satisfied.

                       Clerical Administrator
                     Lourdes Pilgrimage Office

                     Do you know the difference???

Barbara Charles is the Clerical Administrator for the Liverpool Archdiocesan
Pilgrimage. Barbara sends out application forms and information to sick
pilgrims and processes all the CRB disclosure application forms for the
                              Liverpool Hospitalité.
You should contact Barbara if you are a returning member who has not been
to Lourdes for a considerable number of years and does not have an enhanced
CRB disclosure for the pilgrimage. Barbara will send you out the relevant
                             forms for completion.
You should also contact Barbara if you know that a sick pilgrim or a potential
sick pilgrim has died. Barbara can then update her information and
embarrassment will not be caused when she attempts to contact that person
                                 in future years.
Barbara can be contacted by emailing lourdespilgrimage@rcaolp.co.uk

Una Giles is the Hospitalité Secretary. Una sends out the newsletters,
collates the travel and duty information and maintains the Hospitalité contact
                                   database.
You should contact Una with any general correspondence regarding
Hospitalité matters, if you have new contact details or if you no longer wish
                           to receive the newsletter.
You should also contact Una if you know that a Hospitalité member has died.

The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)

We probably all know by now that the EHIC replaced the old E111 form
that we used to get before travelling to Europe.

The EHIC can be used to cover any necessary medical treatment due to
either an accident or illness within the European Economic Area (EEA).
The EHIC entitles the holder to state-provided medical treatment within
the country they are visiting.

Did you know though that the EHIC has an expiry date? Have a look at the
example below...

Abri St Michel and Ave Maria Accommodation Application Form

Any gentlemen wishing to stay at the Abri should send the completed application form

                                          Act of Consecration
Holy Mary Mother of God, Virgin Immaculate, you appeared 18 times to Bernadette at the
Grotto in Lourdes to remind Christians of what the truths in the Gospel require of them. You
called them to prayer, penance, the Eucharist and life in the church.
To answer your call more fully, I consecrate myself through you to your Son, Jesus.
Make me willing to accept what he said. By the fervour of my faith, by the conduct of my life
in all its aspects, by my devotion to the sick, let me work with you in the comforting of those
who suffer and in the reconciliation of people, that the Church may be One and there may be
   peace in the world.
All this I ask, confident that you, Our Lady, will fully answer my prayer.
Blessed be the holy and Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God.
Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us. St Bernadette, pray for us.
Any ladies wishing to stay at the Ave Maria should send the completed application form
below to Margaret Regan,

All cheques should be made payable to the Liverpool Hospitalité.

The Lourdes Authorities normally limit accommodation to one night before the pilgrimage
arrives and one night after the departure of the pilgrimage.

Please note that if you want to stay in any of this accommodation and are booking
the whole package through Leisure Time Travel, you still need to complete this form
and send it to Dave or Margaret. It is the Hospitalité not Leisure Time Travel who
reserve the beds at this accommodation.

Please remember the number of places at the hostels is limited so it is advisable to book
early.

                                                            THE SUPPORT FUND

The support fund exists to assist members of the Hospitalité to travel to
Lourdes with the main pilgrimage party from Liverpool John Lennon Airport
or on the Jumbulance, thus ensuring we have sufficient members to support
the sick pilgrims throughout the journey.
Each year we receive a grant from the Pilgrimage Association to assist
members who may be finding it difficult to fund themselves that particular
year. Obviously these funds are limited but they are there!

email it to ms001f0929@blueyonder.co.uk before 1st April.

Your application will be treated in the strictest confidence.
