             ZAMBIA 2013
             Sample Expedition Itinerary
             Outlined below is an itinerary showing a proposed day-by-day plan to enable the team to achieve its objectives. The itinerary is not a rigid plan,
             but a template or guideline showing how the expedition is expected to work in Zambia and Malawi. As with any expedition, local
             circumstances and conditions may result in adjustments or compromises having to be made - it is up to the team to put the plan into action!

             Please note that this itinerary outlines potential rest and relaxation (R&R) activities available to the team. In addition to these the team may also
             have the opportunity to swim during the course of the expedition. All R&R activities are to be undertaken in accordance with World Challenge
             risk assessments, and must be carried out with approved providers if applicable.

                    From           To               Remarks
               1    Build up day   Build up day     Build up day. World Challenge will hand over team equipment, flight tickets and all itinerary and budget
                                                    information to the team and leaders. The team will stay at the school/departure depot overnight and travel
                                                    to the airport the following day. It is the team's responsibility to organise transport to the airport.

               2    UK             Transit          Travel to the airport for your overnight flight to Africa. You should check in at least 3 hours prior to the
                                                    scheduled departure. You will be able to view the full flight details for your expedition on the expedition
                                                    members' website at the beginning of February. Note that flights are subject to schedule changes.

               3    Transit        Livingstone      On your first day in country you will need to post the Embassy Pack to the British High Commission in
                                                    Lusaka, change money and make (or confirm) any necessary bookings.



               4    Livingstone    Livingstone      Whilst in Livingstone you should take advantage of some of the many activities on offer. You may wish to
                                                    visit the spectacular Victoria Falls and even take a helicopter flight over them. Remember, any optional
                                                    Rest and Relaxation (R&R) activities will be at your own expense. Other R&R options in the Livingstone
                                                    area include canoeing on the Zambezi, walking with elephants or a trip to the Mosi-O-Tunya National
                                                    Park.

               5    Livingstone    Lusaka           Travel from Livingstone to Lusaka. This journey should take approximately 5.5 hours. Spend the rest of
                                                    the day preparing for your acclimatisation trek.



               6    Lusaka         Bridge Camp      After stocking up on supplies travel to Bridge Camp to begin your trekking phase. Bridge Camp is 3
                                                    hours to the east of Lusaka, where the Great East Road meets the Mozambique border at Luangwa
                                                    Bridge. On arrival meet with guides and arrange your trekking for the next few days.

               7    Bridge Camp    Lusemfwa         Begin the 4-day trek into the Lusemfwa Gorge.

              14    Lusaka         Mutinondo        Travel to Mutinondo Wilderness. Perched on the edge of the Muchinga Escarpment, Mutinondo is your
                                   Wilderness       base for the 5-day trek over the escarpment and into the South Luangwa National Park. On arrival
                                                    arrange guides and porters.

              15    Mutinondo      Mutinondo        To get used to the terrain in the area, today you should complete a 1-day trek from Mutinondo

              32    Transit        UK             On your arrival at your home airport, a member of staff from World Challenge will meet you at the airport
                                                  to welcome you home and pick up team equipment. Onward transport from the airport is your
                                                  responsibility.

            conditions may result in adjustments or compromises having to be made - it is up to the team to put the plan into action!

            Please note that this itinerary outlines potential rest and relaxation (R&R) activities available to the team. In addition to these the team may also
            have the opportunity to swim during the course of the expedition. All R&R activities are to be undertaken in accordance with World Challenge
            risk assessments, and must be carried out with approved providers if applicable.

                                                  in Lusaka, change money and make (or confirm) any necessary bookings.


              5     Lusaka         Mpanshya       Travel from Lusaka to Mpanshya to begin your acclimatisation trek.




              6     Mpanshya       Mpanshya       You will be hosted in Mpanshya by the local youth group, who will begin by giving you a tour of their town.



              7     Mpanshya       Mpanshya       Your acclimatisation trekking phase will be a good chance to learn more about life in rural Zambia, as you
                                                  will be trekking from village to village.

              9     Mpanshya       Lusaka         Complete your trekking in Mpanshya and return to Lusaka.




              10 Lusaka            Lusaka         Spend a day in Lusaka. You may like to visit some of the many markets in the city. Organise your
                                                  transport to Livingstone tommorow.


              11 Lusaka            Livingstone    Travel from Lusaka to Livingstone. This journey should take approximately 6 hours.




              12 Livingstone       Livingstone    Rest and Relaxation (R&R). R&R options in the Livingstone area include a canoe trip on the Zambezi,
                                                  walking with elephants, or a visit to Mosi-O-Tunya National Park. Remember, any optional R&R activities
                                                  will be at your own expense.

              13 Livingstone       Livingstone    You may also choose to cross the border into Botswana and visit Chobe National Park as part of your
                                                  R&R. Please ensure you have a multiple entry visa if you wish to do this.


              14 Livingstone       Batoka Gorge - Once you have stocked up on supplies for your trek, travel to the Taita Falcon Lodge, 45 minutes from
                                   Peregrine      Livingstone, overlooking rapid 17 of the Batoka Gorge. After meeting the guides for your Batoka Gorge
                                   camp           trek set up camp at the adjacent Peregrine's Nest campsite.

 14   South        Chipata            As your journey through South Luangwa is an integral part of your itinerary World Challenge will

                                      do any game drives, walking safaris or village tours whilst you are in the National Park area, as
                                      R&R activities these will be at your own expense. Once you have seen all that wish to in the
                                      National Park, travel to Chipata ready for your return to Lusaka tommorow.

15   Chipata        Lusaka         Travel from Chipata back to Lusaka in preparation for heading south to Livingstone tommorow.
                                   Today you will need to make your transport arrangements to Livingstone for the next day.


16   Lusaka         Livingstone    Travel from Lusaka to Livingstone and spend the rest of the day preparing for the start of your
                                   main trek tommorow.


17   Livingstone    Batoka Gorge - Once you have stocked up on supplies for your trek, travel to the Taita Falcon Lodge, 45 minutes
                    Peregrine      from Livingstone, overlooking rapid 17 of the Batoka Gorge. After meeting the guides for your
                    camp           Batoka Gorge trek set up camp at the adjacent Peregrine's Nest campsite.

28   Nsongwe        Livingstone    Today will be the final day at your project, remember to thank your hosts. In the afternoon travel

29   Livingstone    Livingstone    Whilst in Livingstone you should take advantage of some of the many activities on offer. You may
                                   wish to visit the spectacular Victoria Falls and even take a helicopter flight over them.
                                   Remember, any optional R&R activities will be at your own expense. Other R&R options in the
                                   Livingstone area include canoeing on the Zambezi, walking with elephants or a trip to the Mosi-O-
                                   Tunya National Park.
30   Livingstone    Lusaka         Today you will travel to Lusaka where you will spend your last night. You may wish to organise a
                                   final group meal to celebrate all that you have achieved over the last month or visit one of the
                                   many craft markets.

31   Lusaka         Transit        Depart Lusaka airport. You will be able to view the full flight details for your expedition on the
                                   expedition members' website at the beginning of February. Note that flights are subject to
                                   schedule changes.

32   Transit        UK             On your arrival at your home airport, a member of staff from World Challenge will meet you at the
                                   airport to welcome you home and pick up team equipment. Onward transport from the airport is
                                   your responsibility.
