Two companies run frequent buses, 24 hours a day, between London (Victoria Bus Station
and other Central London stops) and Oxford. These are the Oxford Bus Company Oxford
espress or telephone 01865 785400, and Oxford Tube (24 hour service) Oxford tube or
telephone 01865 772250.
There are frequent direct coaches between the airports and Oxford. They are fast and
comfortable. We recommend this form of transport. Taxis are very expensive, and subject to
the same traffic problems as the coaches.
Heathrow Airport, terminals 1, 2 & 3: proceed to the Central Bus Station, bay 14A. There
is a free train transfer Heathrow Connect between Heathrow Central and terminal 4.

The Oxford–Heathrow coach departs approximately every 30 minutes daytime, less
frequently at night.
Gatwick Airport, South Terminal: Lower Forecourt.

Coach tickets: You can buy your coach tickets at the airport, or on board the bus. Ask for a
period return ticket to Oxford. You can pay in sterling, dollars or euros.

Where to get off
The last bus/coach stop is Oxford Gloucester Green Coach Station. Take a taxi from there to
Harris Manchester College, Mansfield Road, Oxford. The taxi rank is across the square (cost
approx. £7). If you prefer to walk, Queen’s Lane bus stop on Oxford High Street is a short
walk away from Harris Manchester College.
From Oxford city centre on foot
(Approx. 10–15 mins) If you arrive on a London or airline coach and you don’t have too
much luggage, you can get off the coach at the Queen’s Lane stop on Oxford High Street.
Cross the road, and turn into Catte Street. Continue up Catte Street until you reach the
crossroads with traffic lights. Turn right into Holywell Street and then take the first turn left
into Mansfield Road. Harris Manchester College is a short way up on the left, opposite the
corner of Mansfield Road and Jowett Walk.
(Approx. 15–20 mins) From Gloucester Green bus station walk across Gloucester Green
square keeping right, past the cinema into George Street towards the city centre. Cross the
traffic lights straight on into Broad Street (Waterstones bookshop on your right). Continue to
the end of Broad Street, past the Sheldonian Theatre on the right. At the traffic lights go
straight on into Holywell Street and then take the first turn left into Mansfield Road. Harris
Manchester College is a short way up on the left, opposite the corner of Mansfield Road and

Note: parking in Oxford is discouraged, and therefore expensive. You are advised to leave
your car at one of the Park and Rides with free parking and 72 hr maximum stay, then to take
a bus into the city.
